Trip Summary

Chad, Bubba, and Brian made it back down for another trip, and with the wind we knew we’d have to work for it. We struck out on the first stop and things started off slow on the second, but the guys stayed patient and we were able to put some solid trout in the boat. From there, we spent the rest of the day covering water and figuring them out. The fish are definitely on the move right now, but sticking with it paid off and we ended up with a nice box. Trips like this are what it’s all about—adjusting to conditions, staying on the move, and making the most of the day. Spring fishing is underway and only getting better. If you’re thinking about getting a trip together, now’s a great time to get on the calendar. Looking forward to the next one.

I had the opportunity to take on another Gordon McKernan group trip, this time with Jay McKernan and his crew on board. We made a smooth run to the trout grounds and were greeted by calm seas and fish that were ready to eat. The action started early and stayed steady, with the crew putting together a great box of trout in short order. Some days everything just lines up, and this was one of them. Great conditions, plenty of bites, and a fun group to spend the morning with. Looking forward to the next trip.

Tough conditions with wind and very little tide movement made for a slower bite, but sticking with the right approach paid off. We focused on fishing slow and methodical, and the crew was able to put together a nice box of speckled trout along with some bonus redfish. Even on tougher days, patience and consistency get results.

Day 2 brought high north winds and low water, so we switched it up and targeted some bigger fish to keep the rods bent. By Day 3, conditions improved and we were able to get back on a steady sheepshead bite and finish the trip strong. Trips like this are always a good reminder that being able to adjust to conditions makes all the difference. No matter what the weather throws at us, we work to keep everyone on fish and having a good time. Spring fishing is underway and only getting better from here.
