Trip Summary
Water temps are still slowly cooling down. I'm still seeing Redfish schooling up with tight backwater creeks. Fishing a flood tide about an hour after the change has brought the best bite for me. The fish seem to be very happy and hungry. A light weighted fly (dark with purple, as well as natural colored patterns) have been the ticket. Plastics have also been great for the Reds and Trout. Slow fished ned rigs as well as artificial shrimp on lead heads. Ive been telling my clients to retrieve slower than they think they need, then slow down from there.
I’ve been finding the trout on drop offs and around structure. With Trout I’ve been looking for deeper water, structure, and current. If you find a spot with all three of those, the chances that you’ve found some Trout are good. Big Trout are here and have been a blast to catch.
This cooler water has had the visibility amazing and sight fishing has been top notch!
