Today had me hosting the Adolph family for some father son time. Water temps have increased slightly to 73 degrees. The warmer water temps slowed the bite down a bit. The yellow perch’s main food source right now is the spiney water flea which flourish in water temps between 75-65 degrees. Once the water fleas start dying off the perch bite will only get better. The warmer water temps alonmake it hard to get the preffered bait for yellow perch, which are called emerald shiners. Im currently using “drunken shiners” from last year. We freeze the shiners in vodka which helps preserve the minnow and keeps them from getting mushy when you freeze them. Despite the water fleas and lack of live shiners, we still managed to box 90 perch in five hours.

On Friday we had the Austin family aboard for en evening trip. Fishing was a little on the slower side due to the weather that hurricane Beryl brought to the area on Tuesday and Wednesday, causing the whole western end of the lake to turn into chocolate milk. The clarity was starting clear up Friday evening. We caught 10 walleye and 4 perch prior to the customer calling the trip a couple hours early.

This past weekend I had 6 charters from Thursday through Sunday. The walleye fishing was top notch. We managed to catch 149 of a possible 156 fish between those 6 trips.
