This fishing trip was overall a good experience. One of the 7 guys on the two boats we chartered had never even been on a boat…much less had even fished before and one of our guys had never been on an inshore fishing trip. I think John Lafitte charters made a good impression on what it means to go catch some specs. We’ll use them again!

Great day of fishing! Highly recommend it!

We booked with JLH charters in order to participate in an annual tournament out of Sand Dollar Marina.  We ended up with an eight man crew… without out the deckhand (Mr. Knuckles and captain Jason).  The 30’ft boat was just right for the trip as we ventured across the bay from Grand Isle and into the marsh seeking Speckled Trout and Redfish.  The ride would’ve been much too rough in a typical bay boat had it not been for the long well built aluminum hull that rocked and rolled us over 7 mi of choppy waters.  We hit some key spots that obviously had provided many schools of specks for the taking… we just hit it on a slow day.  These guys knew what they were doing by providing a professional attitude, knowledge of the area, teaching us all a little something about the basics (esp. the teenagers) the bait we needed (even trolled for shrimp) and a well rounded selection of music.  One regret is that we forgot the sunblock so we definitely got our daily dose of Vitamin D!  Regardless, we had a word of prayer and as Pslam 121 says, “the sun will not harm you by day nor the moon by night”.. The Good Lord kept all our skin from baking too much.  Captain Jason and Mr. Knuckles were so kind after we’d fished hard all day as to bring us by a pretty cool private beach on the way back to the dock.  The younger guys really enjoyed running around and exploring the place… even had a close encounter with a dolphin who’d been swimming around behind the jetties.  Overall we had a great time and Captain Jason along with Mr. Knuckles made it happen in a big way.  We all caught fish, took some excellent pictures, and were blessed with a moment in time we’ll always remember.

S we started our trip early in the morning. The captain was being very responsive when helping us out find the harbor and buy the licenses. We got more than 10 fishes within two hours under his guidance. And he also drove us back with his own car to downtown area because we could not get Uber in the area after done fishing. Overall, it was really a fun experience with Shaw, a nice and responsible cap! Recommend!
