My family of 5 fished on the Wolverine. With Capt. Kyle and mate Noah.ย Excellent team very knowledgeable and accommodating.ย They showed us the technique to fishing in Cook inlet.ย Put us on the fish. And we caught our limit of Halibut and a hand full of Cod.
It was an excursion worth waiting for. For first timers, one does not know what to expect.ย So, as a novice, the captain and one main crew teaches and explains well, They really help every step of the way. It was an enjoyable experience.ย I recommend this captain, Kyle and young ship mate, Noah, as being there to assist and make it a pleasure to go fishing with them.
Captain Kyle got us on some good salmon fishing and some excellent halibut fishing. The action was fast and furious and the whole boat caught fish.ย I highly recommend a trip with Captain Kyle
Thank you Kevin, we really appreciate you fishing with us and for the excellent review.ย Reubin Payne
Took our first fishing charter with Captain Kyle and deckhand Noah. They had to navigate some choppy seas but still got us safely and skillfully to the fishing site in 45 mins. Everyone caught their limit, and despite the growing waves, nobody was rushed. I felt safe and confident with the crew. Book with them!
I felt the trip was over booked, 5 people on the boat fishing, would have been 6, but one of my party members dropped out, think goodness for that, but the bad part is i paid for him, I lost that money. The captain did his best, but 5 people fishing with only 3 to 4 poles in the water, somebody wasnโt catching thier fish. I was one of them. I only got 1 Halibut to keep and 2 Cod. I felt bad every time I grabbed a pole to real in a fish, because the others would just be standing there watching. With so few poles in the water, everyone felt bad grabbing a pole. That made the while trip very uncomfortable.ย Would I do this trip again, hell yeah, would I recommend this trip to someone,ย hell yeah, itโs called fishing, not catching.

Hi William, Thank you for the feedback. Iโm not sure if you are confused about the situation on the boat. You and your friend were the only paying customers on the boat. You start with โthe boat was overbookedโ but this is not the case at all. Two of the five on the boat were our river guide employees, that jumped on to give you a couple extra rods in the water, since they had the day off of the river.ย The other person on the boat was one of their girlfriends, that is not big into fishing, but enjoys the marine wildlife and scenery (she is an Alaskan landscape/fish artist).ย They were there to help assist and maybe bring home a few small fish for us to eat.ย In Alaska, the captain and deck hand cannot fish a rod. When you had three or four rods out, that was to allow you, the paying customer, to have maximum opportunity to catch fish while the tide was running hard.ย Legally, we can only have one rod per person, and the rod is put up once a personโs limit is caught.ย So in actuality, the boat was under-booked.ย Our boat is actually the biggest 6-pack vessel on the Cook Inlet and fishes 6 rods, when full with 6 customersโregularly, with no trouble.ย You mentioned that you โfelt bad when grabbing a rodโ.ย My crew knows that the way we feed our family is by insuring the customer comes first. The last thing we allow is for a non paying passenger to reel in fish while a paying customer watches.ย Iโm sorry if that made you feel uncomfortable, but those guys have reeled in plenty of fish and God willing, will reel in plenty more. They have way more opportunities than you to catch halibut so please donโt feel bad at all. As far as charging you for the third person that didnโt show up, you let us know the night before the trip.ย If we had more notice and had been able to rebook the seat, we would have refunded your money.ย Hopefully we see you in the future and can help you have a better experience. Thanks for fishing with us,ย Reubin Payne
