From the moment we left the dock Capt. Nelson and L J were on their game. I brought my son and 2 grandsons ( 13 and 5 ) . Both Nelson and L J treated the boys like young men. They explained to all of us what the plan would be for the day . L J got to work right away getting all the rigs set up and in the water. To be honest , it wasn’t the best day to fish but that’s not Capt. Nelson or L J’s fault . The water was very dirty with a lot of weeds and debris through out the river . Also , due to all the fires in Northern Ca. the smoke was pretty bad .  We caught 4 , lost 1 , (  Striped Bass ) and never got a hit for Salmon. Capt. Nelson and
L J tried all the tricks in the book to get us our limit and never stopped working . We still did better than all the other boats out there . Overall , Capt. Nelson and L J were great and I would definitely use them again .
I also have some advise for 1st timers and those who are taking young children .
Do your homework on what kind of fishing you want to do. When you troll for Striped Bass and Salmon , the deck hand does all the work getting the rigs in the water, you pretty much just sit there until there’s a strike and then you can reel in the Striped Bass . That’s just fine for old guys like me but young boys want
more action . They want to be more involved . They want to cast , feel the fish bite and reel them in. The next fishing trip I set up ( when I take the boys ) I will fish for Large Mouth Bass , Catfish and Crappie . This does not mean I would expect more fish caught , but the boys would have more fun being more active. The boys said they had a good time and wanted to go again . That’s the most important thing . Also , when planning a trip with young kids remember it’s
$ 200.00 per person. My 5 year old grandson got to help his dad reel in 1 fish .
The rest of the time he just sat on his dads lap. So at the end of the day I spent
$ 800.00 for the trip and $ 200.00 tip for a total $ 1000.00 for 4 Striped Bass , when cleaned , 8 fillets . If you understand exactly the kind of fishing you’ll be doing , you’ll have a great time.

My brother and I have been fishing on the Delta a number of times before, but never experienced the success that Nelson and his crew provided us. Caught 18 Stripers between us (only took one home each, and released the rest). It was a great day despite some dicey weather.
