The name Ken Burns is in the minds of many synonymous with grand, sweeping documentaries on PBS. For those lucky enough to meet the other Ken Burns—owner and operator of 2Net—they will walk away with an appreciation of a different sort. Ken’s mastery of his boat as well as the lower Willamette River provided us with a fantastic experience on the water. We fished very late in the season, the science and lore of which was explained to us is great detail by Ken. My wife and I always enjoy learning about the local ecology when we travel, Ken’s commentary and knowledge of the area did not disappoint! Here’s what we learned: Late season salmon fishing is difficult due to the increase in water temperature. The day we went out, the temps were right near the cut off of 70 deg. Despite that challenge, Ken gave our efforts his best and sure enough we were lucky enough to grab a nice Chinook salmon! Ken’s directions for when a fish is on the line were detailed but not difficult- and they worked perfectly. We dined on that delicious fish for 3 days. It was quite a thrill to catch a salmon (a first for me) and Ken 100% made it happen. He’s a great guide and would recommend him to everyone.
