Me and my husband booked Captain Mendez for a full day trip while we were on our honeymoon, and it ended up being a trip of a lifetime. The atmosphere was fun and energetic. We both were able to catch some Mahi, and my husband was able to get hooked up on a Marlin. It was an absolutely beautiful and massive fish, and we wouldn’t have been able to reel it in if it wasn’t for the expertise of Captain Mendez and the help of his son! We ended the trip enjoying some fresh delicious mahi ceviche on the beautiful ride home. We would recommend this fishing charter to anyone looking to have a great fishing experience, and to whoever is looking to catch some great fish! Will be fishing with him again the next time we come to Costa Rica!

I have fished this part of Costa Rica several times. Usually with success. This was my first time with Captain Mendez. I prefer to fish with Ticos the Tico way! Captain Mendez is all Tico! And he is an outstanding fishermen! I told him that I wanted to catch a Cubera Snapper. After about 4 hours of trying, they just weren’t biting. So I asked him to switch gears and to try something else. We ended up trolling for a few hours with only a couple of needle fish to show for it. Captain Mendez refused to give up! And due to his persistence, we landed a HUGE sailfish! Biggest sail I’ve ever caught or seen for that matter! Do not hesitate to book this boat! He knows what he is doing and will work very hard to make it a worthwhile trip! Thanks Cap!! I will definitely see you soon!!

This trip was absolutely amazing! My family and I had the best time fishing we’ve ever had in our life!! The Captain had us on fish within minutes of arriving at out destination, Catching my Bucket List Mahi first catch! Amazing! They were prepared for everything every step of the way! Service is A+++ They provided drinks, Snacks, Fruit, Sandwiches and even served us our Fresh caught Mahi prepared into the best sushi I’ve ever had! Amazing!!!  Even my 7 year old boy tried and loved the Sashimi!!! Wow the pickiest kid in the world not only tried but loved the sushi! Captain took us to another spot on the way back just for our son to catch wonderful smaller Snapper that he could catch and reel in all on his own! He thought it was so cool!! This is honestly was the trip of a lifetime and should t be missed!! Don’t let the smaller boat turn you away, I almost passed this up thinking I needed a bigger boat but my wife said who cares we can always go again if you want so I booked it and I couldn’t be happier!!

Our family of four kicked off our Costa Rican adventure with a full day tour with Captain Juan Carlos and his crew. From the start, the communication was amazing, every question was answered immediately and thoroughly. Juan Carlos wanted to know about our family and preferences. He catered the trip to exactly what our family was looking for. We spent a few hours trolling followed by a few hours bottom fishing. The crew helped us reel in 4 huge fish. We also spotted dolphins, sea turtles, and even 2 groups of humpback whales. Following the fishing portion, the crew took us to a beautiful snorkeling area. Our captain was in the water with us showing us sea stars, puffer fish, and various marine life. We ended at a beautiful accessible by boat only beach. Our captain once again delivered by hiking with us to a viewpoint at the top of the hill and showing us 2 incredible sea caves. During the journey we ate fresh pineapple and sashimi from the day’s catch. Our trip couldn’t have been any more incredible! We left feeling like Juan Carlos was a friend, absolutely the most kind person we could meet. We would absolutely recommend this trip!

I might be long winded with this review so let me just say off top for those who want to know the results. We went on a half day tour. All the adults caught barracuda, original or Pacific, the kids caught caught red Snaper and Grouper, and a scorpion fish. We took home about 13 fish.

Okay so details. Captain Mendez and his helper are awesome. They speak English and have a good sense of humor. Easy to talk to and good with kids.
They are very knowledgeable. They made us like a shimi sushi with the fish we caught. They also prepared fruit and juice for the kids and waters for us. They also kept our beers cold.
The boat is not fancy but was clean and felt safe the entire time with a group of 6. Some people in our group that normally get motion sickness had no issues. The waters were pretty calm in the morning and we did not go that deep into the sea. Some of the more expensive boats that are taller but similar length will only take 4 people and charge triple.
Bottom line if you go with Mendez you will come home with Fish,  a great experience, Awesome stories to tell and a heavier wallet. Next time I come to Costa Rica I’m booking a full day tour.

This was an Experience me my Father in Law and my Son will remember for a lifetime.
