Captain Mendez picked us up to get to his boat, we went offshore to the current line and started trolling. It didn’t take long, we saw Mahi Mahi jump behind the lures, but this day, they were picky. Few bites, no fishi on. Then, soon after they vanished, one line started to scream; there was something big on the line. It took my 14 year old 20 minutes to reel it in, but then finally, there it was, a nice wahoo of more than 5 feet! We resumed fishing, saw 2 sailfins and went after them. We circled them for a while, but unfortunately, they didn’t bite. We then proceeded to the rooster fish area and started fishing with live bait. Within 5 mins, we had caught decent sized inshore fish.
Captain Mendez was in constant communication with the other captains, all of them wiped that day. So in my book, it’s captain Mendez 1, the rest 0.

Captain Juan was very accommodating and made our half day adventure great. The waves at our beach have been huge, so he was willing to come pick us up in his truck for a modest fee when I told him my mom would be unable to board the boat at shore. Once onboard he got right to work and within the hour we had caught a large Jurel, and then an hour later we caught a large Roosterfish. My oldest son was tentative for the first two fish so he deferred to be the last fisherman, but then we ran into a dry spell and Captain Juan tried everything but it wasn’t looking good. However, after all hope seemed to be lost and we were going back to shore, Captain Juan frantically sped the boat towards a swarm of tuna jumping and cast into the middle of the frenzy. A minute later he had a bite and my oldest son got a good size tuna! But then two minutes later a second tuna was snagged so my son actually brought in two fish after it seemed like none were in the cards!! We also saw jellyfish, dolphins, pelicans, and two giant turtles. Thank you Captain Juan for an unforgettable experience and for never giving up!

We booked a half day fishing trip with goals to catch a rooster fish and a sail fish. Within the first 30 minutes, my son and husband had each caught a rooster fish! Heading further out, Juan Carlos was a great guide, taking time to show us different caves, rock formations, and tell us about local culture.
Unfortunately, it was a very windy day, so the conditions were not conducive to catching a sailfish. We were able to catch some snapper, which we later enjoyed for lunch!
I highly recommend Juan Carlos and his crew!

The ocean was pretty rough on the day we went out, and nobody seemed to be catching anything, but we got a dorado right off the bat, and then things were quiet for quite a while until Juan Carlos spotted schools of feeding tuna.  It was so fun to chase down the tuna, cast into the middle of the school, and then bring them in!  We saw lots of wildlife (whale, dolphins, turtles, manta rays) and had delicious sashimi and snacks on the boat.  I would totally recommend going out with Juan Carlos!  The trip was totally worth the value and experience.

No words can accurately describe how much fun we had. We saw flying fish, so many pink speckled dolphin, sea turtles, a venomous snake, and manta rays doing flips in the air. If those things weren’t enough, we also slayed the mahi. There were two of us fishing and after a few hours of searching, we caught three Mahi Mahi, two of which we got in the boat. Guessing each was easily 30+ pounds. Talk about excitement! It was pure chaos reeling these two in together at the same time! 🤣😅 ❤️ This was all off shore maybe 10-20 miles. Went inshore and got a mackrel. The views were all awesome.
We reserved the captain’s larger boat for a full day. I reserved this crew because I knew I was talking directly to the captain that had the boat we were going to fish on.
They picked us up on the Playa Hermosa beach in the morning. It had a private toilet. Fresh pineapple and some tasty lunch sandwiches were also served. Some beer, soda, water was provided. We brought beer to toss into their ice chest as well. The boat was clean, the equipment was great.
The deck hand (Roberto I believe) did a spectacular job changing out lines and bait as we worked around the water.
At the end we took what we wanted to cook up for fillets at our Airbnb and left the crew with the remaining. They were very appreciative.
Captain Juan was a lot of fun and was very accommodating. We were able to do everything we wanted. I suggest making sure you know what you want to fish before you get out there. Be ready for rough waters if you get motion sickness and take some medication if you do. Enjoy the experience. We loved it!
