My husband and I came down to fish near shore from Myrtle Beach over Labor Day weekend. Leading up to the trip the Captain had to change to reservation because the morning slot was double booked and then he changed it again when the morning customer canceled and we agreed to arrive for the AM trip. I tried to be as flexible as possible as I was extremely excited for this opportunity. I’ve been on multiple charters and had tough days on the water in different parts of the U.S. Today the conditions were seemingly great, but the target species of King Mackerel were not biting save for one that didn’t make it into the boat. I don’t feel the Captain provided enough education on the game plan for the target species ahead of the trip or when we got to the locations, that may have helped slightly. We ended up with no fish and Captain Austin did discount the price, but overall very disappointing and dissatisfied with this charter. It turned into a very expensive boat road. The Captain, in my opinion was not motivated to change up or find a way to put fish in the boat whatever they may be. His comments were also off-putting. He said if we had known about the one mackerel would be our “only bite we would have tried harder.” You should be trying hard on every bite to get a fish for the customer. It’s one thing to get skunked on your own or have a bad day, but when you’re paying the price of a charter you really need to find a way to get fish on the boat. I would have gone on literally any other trip offered in Myrtle Beach if I had known I would waste all of my money on an unknown charter. We weren’t prepared to target anything else today. Captain Austin was a nice individual, but not very engaged or determined. I think I should have spent more time scrutinizing the reviews and would have realized there was a reason on a Labor Day weekend why they had availability. Also a majority of the positive reviews were for shark fishing trips and not for the nearshore bottom/trolling. I assess there is a valid reason for this now after today’s experience. I recommend taking your hard earned money and vacation time with another Captain that has more time and experience taking care of charter customers and can get you the experience you are looking for.

Thank you guys for booking with us. I am sorry you did not receive the catching experience you looked forward to. However, our trip was to target king mackerel which we hooked almost immediately after we began trolling at the first location. The fish did spit the hook at the boat which is not a fun thing for anyone to expirence. But, it did not spit the hook for a lack of trying. I believe my comment to you later in the day was “we would have fought the first fish a bit slower if I had known it was going to be our only king.” As for the game plan it was pretty simple and I thought was explained well. Obtain live bait, troll live bait, catch king mackerel. I moved the boat many times trying to put you guys on fish, and we did get on fish. We caught barracuda that you forgot to mention. However you guys opted to leave biting fish to target kings again. We also discussed bottom fishing which would have certainly put fish in the boat but as well you guys opted to stick with trolling for kings. As for being unmotivated, I was motivated enough to run that entire trip for free, i.e. the discount you recieved. Again, I am sorry for some booking rearrangement but, things happen that are out of my control. I apolodrize you had such a waste of your vacation on a trip with us but, do know that we gave it our all. Best of luck to you on your next trip with someone who is fully booked on labor day weekend.

Both of the personnel on board were nice enough, but kind of argued about the game plan. Couldn’t decide what we should do. The equipment left a lot to be desired. The boat was very nice though. Have been on several chartered fishing trips, but never one that landed only one fish. If the plan doesn’t work after two hours you usually regroup and replan, not say we are moving the argue and stay in the same place for another hour and a half. The crew seemed young and inexperienced.
He new I get it and the water was ruff but all we caught was ribbon fish at the inlet my honest opinion save your money or go to someone else because the way they talked if you can even find a flounder of anything your lucky
The charter operator canceled on trip date. This is an automated posting.
