We enjoyed being out on the boat and the crew are clearly hard working, but several things about our outing were disappointing.ย We booked an evening, 3-hour shark fishing trip, which had a higher price tag than the other trips. In a private message exchange with the captain we stated how excited we were about shark fishing, specifically, because we had never done it.ย He responded that we were in for a fun time. Unfortunately, the crew were late to the boat. They called and said they had to get some supplies and whatever time we lost on the front end of the trip would be added to the back end. We left the dock about 30 minutes late and it wasnโt until we were a good ways out that the captain said shark fishing wasnโt good this season and we would be doing flounder and grouper. We werenโt sure if this had to do with the late start or if shark fishing truly wasnโt a good option, but we should have been informed of this at the time of booking (24 hrs before the trip) or on the dock, and the price of the trip should have been adjusted. After doing what we assumed was a typical, shortened outing where we caught a flounder, the captain said the fish just werenโt biting and we headed back. He said he would shave off some of the price because of the lost time, but when we got to the dock he dropped the price by a very minimal amount. It hardly covered the missed time and did not in any way address the fact that we paid for a more expensive shark fishing trip. Furthermore, he insisted we tip the crew a certain amount, regardless of the cost of the trip. He walked us into the tack shop and insisted we get some cash in order to tip this pre-determined amount that he had in his head. It was awkward. This is not to suggest we didnโt want to tip the crew. They worked exceptionally hard and deserved it. But we didnโt appreciate feeling strong-armed and manipulated about both the cost of the trip and the kind of fishing involved. We are well aware of the fact that the captain/crew cannot, necessarily, dictate or control how many fish or what kind a client may or may not catch on an outing. But it was clear that the captain knew from the time of booking there would be no shark fishing; he simply misled us.ย All of these discrepancies made our sunset outing less enjoyable.

We tried to be as communicable about the conditions prior to going out on the boat. Unfortunately, mother nature does not always cooperate. Additionally, we communicated that we were running behind prior to the start of the trip as a result of having to go into town for oil for the boat and then unfortunately getting stuck as a result of the drawbridge.
Capt Steady and Trey the first mate were outstanding! My family truly enjoyed the day, caught a variety of fish and for some of the first timers on a charter had a great time. Iโve been on several charters over the years and this Capt made the experience wonderful for all of my party. We caught Flounder, Blue, Sea Bass and that elusive Makeral that got awayโฆwell we will get you next time. Highly recommend Unshakable and much appreciation to Captain Steadman. Thank you.
