Great experience with Capt. Greg. On time, friendly and acomidating. Will book again.
Thank you Sir! Hope you enjoy the fish!
Had a great time with Captain Greg! We didn’t go fishing we went catching!
Thank you Ma’am!
I originally scheduled a full day offshore trip since the past several years we’ve done inshore trips with other captains. As time got closer, Capt Greg was saying the forecasted high winds was going to make for a rough trip and unpleasant trip. I told him we wanted to target snapper and grouper. He said they were not in season. I told him I know some species are and he agreed. I asked what type of structure he fished offshore and he said natural bottom, which is misleading since the Fishing Booker page says reefs and wrecks. The weather forecast I was seeing did’nt reflect what he was telling me, but since he knows the area far better than I ever will, and kept texting saying the forecast was bad, I respected the decision and we changed it to an inshore trip, which saved me quite a bit of money. I also told him we would like to target some red fish. The morning of the trip, he texted me just as we all loaded in the car getting ready to meet him at the dock. He said we will be going at 8 instead of 7 . His text read “Fog and time change make it later”. We left anyway and arrived before 7. We didnt see much fog and the docks were loaded with other charter captains and clients loading up and taking off. When he finally arrived, his boat had seen better days. I believe he said it was built in 1977. We headed up the river and he ran the boat into the bank and gave 3 of us rods and started tying the hook and sinker on the 4th. He told us to cast out the back as I waited for him do something other captains had always had rigged and ready the night before. It was crowded in the back of the boat by the time he got all 4 of us fishing, and our lines were getting tangled. So I asked if he had a trolling motor and he said no, scares the fish away. I would have thought running the big boat up on the bank with the bigger motor would do more to scare fish than a quiet trolling motor keeping us away from the reds near the bank, but we’re not familiar with the area, so we went with his method. We didnt catch any reds, so we moved and he put us on a good spot to catch a lot of small croaker, catfish, and silver trout, which was fun. After awhile I asked if we could move on to try and catch something bigger or different after we caught a bunch of small fish. We eventually moved to the flats and were still fishing with live bait. I asked him if he had an artificial set up like with a jig or something i could cast like we’ve done with other charter captains. He handed me an old pole with a reel in such poor shape you could barely turn it. After giving it a try i asked if he had another. He didnt say anything. Then a few minutes later he gave me another that was much better. After a cast or two, i looked at the jig and the hook was all rusted and dull. I asked if he had another and he didnt say anything. I felt like i was getting on his nerves. A few minutes later he got me a newer jig. We ended up catching some nice trout. one was big enough to keep. I had another nice trout on, but the line broke and it got away. We could only cast off one side of the boat unless you wanted to cast into the wind. There were 4 of us plus the captain and he sat in his captain chair and he was fishing and casting with the wind too. Carter was on the other side of the boat casting into the wind. I asked Carter if he wanted to move to the side with everyone else, and he said no. We all knew it would be even more crowded and we were already snagging each others line as it was. Carter was also uncomfortable and didnt want to make the captain mad. Carter did end up catching one casting into the wind. When we got home we saw all the posts of lots of big fish caught from the other charters that went off shore that day, but we were still glad we changed it to inshore because we would not have felt safe if the water was moderately rough in his boat.

We had an outstanding time with Captain Greg. He put us on fish immediately. We caught over 100 fish throughout the day. Will definitely go with Greg again.
