We set out early from PV and the water was ROUGH. My 18 and 11 year old boys both tossed their breakfast overboardโฆ. But oddly, we knew the captain was doing a good job of minimizing the rolling we were feeling. This is one captain who knows how to handle a boat - let me assure you!
We eventually got out into the wider ocean, into the big game grounds, and the trolling hooks were just not getting touched. Between getting sick and not catching anything in the first 4 hours, spirits started to waneโฆ.
Suddenly the boat lurched to a stop and, almost jumping down to the deck, the crew scrambled. They grabbed a fish from the bait hole, tossed it on a rod and castโฆ. โMarlin!โ was the call that rang out - and on the first cast - it bit!
20 minutes later, a Marlin was about to be pulled up into the boat - when it snapped the line and my father, who was on the rod, registered a look of disappointment.
Not so fast! The captain kept the fish on his radar and followed it. After that 20 minute fight, the Marlin was โdoneโ. It had taken some damage during the fight and wasnโt able to dive down.
The crew relentlessly pursued the marlin, and after several tense minutes, managed to get a hold it near the bow of the boat. They dragged the fish down the side of the boat and pulled the massive beast up onto the deck, with all of us cheering their efforts.
This trip was my gift to my dad, as he lived for taking my brother and I out fishing since we were young - and heโs never been able to fulfill this particular dream.
This crew ENSURED that dream came true.
We could not be happier and couldnโt recommend this crew more.
We caught several Bonita and a jack crevalle. As the other posts say, the crew will make a ceviche from the Bonita - but what they donโt say is how absolutely delicious that ceviche is.
We ordered the taxidermy for the Marlin so my dad can keep that memory close by for years to come.
Between the father and son on the crew, and Grandma and Grandpa, me and my boys (the grand children) - it was very much a family affair for all involved - and it truly felt that way.
Thanks to everyone at Martinโs!
