Ivan is a great captain who took care of everything for us. Our team of inexperienced newb fishing folks still managed to catch a few 4-5lb Spring Salmon on this wonderful sunny Saturday afternoon in August and net in about 60 spot prawns! I didn’t realize that spot prawns are year-round when recreational fishing! Just be aware that when you go for spot prawns, it is not the same spot for the big fish and it’s better to leave the traps in for a full-day trip rather than a half-day trip… So if you’re there mostly to fish, maybe skip out on the spot prawns for half-day trips. Also, Chinooks are allowed only after Sept, we missed out on that by a few days. Hopefully next year!

We had such a wonderful day and we feel lucky to be his penultimate charter before his second retirement. Thank you again Ivan! The fish, crab and shrimp were delicious and the kids still talk about the day.

Captain Ivan is a great guide with lots of experience and fun stories. He’ll explain every step of the way if you’re a newcomer and is patient, caring, and attentive. He is willing to accommodate whatever you want to do whether it’s crabbing, fishing, spot prawn fishing, and more.

We departed McDonald Beach on time at 7:05am after an informative safety and fishing briefing. We went directly out to the fishing grounds off the south arm of the Fraser River. We fished primarily in the deeper water, 400+ ft today. We had an epic battle with a seal that stole our first hit of the day. We lost a few to inexperience through the day, but mentorship from Ivan got us on track and we finished with 3 in the boat.
A fabulous day. Ivan is a very experienced fisherman and guide and he shares his wealth of knowledge and experience with his guests. He taps into his network throughout the day to see where the bite is on and where it’s not.
I highly recommend Ivan and I have already booked my next day on the water with him. Bringing a client this time.

We fished for two days during very slow conditions the first day we hooked 3 but only landed one Chinook Salmon… Ivan was checking with other boats in the area periodically and we were one of the only boats to have a fish on board we went back to the dock after the captain extended my trip by a few hours to try and get us more fish ... what more could you ask for .. The second day Was a beautiful morning and we got a really nice coho early in the day and then waited for a few hours while the fishing was on the slow side the second day, we shared great conversation some stories about fishing and a lot of laughs throughout the day, Ivan is knowledgeable and works really hard to try and get fish to bite ... we tried many different baits and combinations of live bait and everything we could throw at the fish. Later in the second day after catching a couple the first day we got a massive Chinook bite and I was able to cross catching a Tyee off my bucket list during a slow fishing forecast, I use to be a fishing guide myself and I was so impressed with the way Ivan stayed composed and landed me the biggest fish I’ve ever caught! Thrilled is an understatement and being someone who generally talks a lot I was speechless
Ivan stayed out a couple extra hours to get me the fish I had hoped for, we had radio chat through the day with other boats and we were the only boat we saw catch a fish the entire day! I couldn’t ask for a better experience and the professionalism of my charter captain is one that I’ll never forget!!
