We had a great day for fishing, although we only caught one huge King Salmon the entire time (36” and about 30 Lbs). We fished an area best suited for salmon and then went out a bit farther and fished for halibut. Unfortunately, the fish just weren’t biting well and we could see that also was true for several other fishing boats near us at the salmon and halibut sites. Overall though Capt Terry was great and knew what he was doing, the boat was fine, and his gear assistant, Jonah, was also very good at getting lines out and such. I would definitely recommend Juneau Adventures if visiting in the area.

Our experience on the Juneau Adventures – 32’ was not a good one. We booked an 8 hour salmon/halibut trip for 5 people but the trip started out rough. As we arrived to the dock we were told we were moving over to the FV Petrel even though we booked Juneau Adventures (we were told they are all owned by the same people). Once we boarded the Petrel we found out that they didn’t have all the gear to fish for the day. Rods and gear were brought over from the JA. Once at the fishing grounds it took the deck hand a while to get gear ready. The Captain didn’t assist at all to help the green deck hand. The Captain mostly stayed in the cabin. The other problem here is we had 5 people ready to fish but they only had four poles, we could have easily fished 5 poles if we had them. After the first fish was caught, they found out they had no pliers or knife on the boat, again the JA had to come drop off gear. After a while bottom fishing we decided to go for salmon – again not enough poles or the right setup for trolling for salmon. They original started with two poles as they didn’t have the gear to put any more poles in the water. More gear was borrowed from the JA – which was always fishing within 200 yards of us (the JA had 5 people fishing on that boat). Even with this we could only get four poles in the water but the setup was a joke, the Captain never even tried to improve the setup. One line was rubbing on the small trolling motor for most of the trip. We even asked if they had the tools to move the gear and the answer was no. Overall the trip was a major disaster – Lazy Captain, not the right gear or setup, inexperienced deck hand (but he put forth a great effort and we rewarded him), sandwiches for 4 people not 5. We did catch some fish but should have caught more if they didn’t waste hours getting gear ready or setting it up. Final lapse was we had to ask if the fish was going to be filleted once we got to the dock, the deck hand didn’t know how and the Captain did a horrible job filleting. I would not use this set of boats again. Final add on – Captain Terry said he would provide a partial; refund – have not see this.
