Had a great day fishing. My son is getting married in a week, and so I planned this fishing trip for him and his friends. The water was a little rough, but Capt. Chris did a superb job at handling the boat and made us all feel safe and had no worries. After a couple hours traveling out, Capt. Chris put us on the fish. Needless to say, we had a great day fishing. Everyone caught fish. The first mate (sorry I’m terrible with names) was awesome. Now being honest here, I have to say that I was “hit from the side” to start with. When I booked this trip online several weeks prior to our trip, I paid in full. When we arrived on the morning of our fishing trip and everyone was loaded on the boat ready to go, I was told that the owner of the fleet wanted to see me about “settling up” on the $$. Of course I thought this was some sort of misunderstanding, so I went to speak with the owner. He proceeds to tell me that I owe him $200 more due to fuel price increases. He was not rude in anyway, shape, form or fashion, but just told me that they were asking for this because of fuel price increases. Now, of course I understand this, I mean I totally get it…......BUT not the morning of. In between me booking the trip from the start, there were a few emails sent back and forth going over the trip details and just confirming things and even a few phone conversations. Never once was a fuel charge, or the possibility of a fuel charge mentioned. So, you can see my initial frustration with this. I came prepared to have a great day watching my son and his friends interact and laugh and have a good time together, but before any of that can happen, I’m hit with this. I was also prepared to tip the Capt. and 1st mate the customary 20% ($370 total or $185 each) and I was afraid that this extra charge would put me short on cash for tipping them and I told the owner that. Now I do need to say that the owner (Mr. Robert Taylor) was very nice and very respectful to me, and did work with me on the fuel charge which I was very appreciative of. He was a gentleman and very well spoken. I try to be honest and fair in all areas of my life and live accordingly, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention this one thing in my review. But let me say this, I WOULD use Calabash Fishing Fleet again without hesitation on my next fishing excursion ( which I hope won’t be too long). We were on the Ms Calabash boat and had a great day. Many memories were made and lots of laughs were had, and to top it off…....the fish were biting. We had a great day!! Thank you Calabash Fishing Fleet!!!
