August fishing trip

Captain John Buser was really great to learn from and his style was very well appreciated. Unfortunately we couldn't catch what we were targeting (Walleye) as they were quiet that day but we caught a decent sized 18" Smallmouth. Just the learning experience and fun conversations are worth the trip alone!

Our Guide, John Buser, was nothing short of outstanding! We've never Fly Fished in our lives. He was patient, professional and taught us very well. We caught 6 Small Mouth Bass. Whatta buzz! Beautiful river and amazing wildlife. Very relaxing and wonderful. Highly recommend.

Firl Outfitters/John Buser delivered a great afternoon fly fishing on a gorgeous stretch of the Little Wolf River. My 14-yo was curious about fly fishing, and I'd asked John to stoke her interest. He had her casting nicely within an hour, and even managed to improve my own sloppy technique. The inflatable boat seemed unorthodox but maneuvered neatly and was perfectly stable to stand in, with hefty swivel seats that were comfy even after hours on the river. And yeah, we found some fish! Captain John customized everything to us, something not every guide has the skill or flexibility to do. He called ahead of time to talk about our preferences, then tailored a plan that took into account our skills, the weather and the water. If you're looking for fancy this probably isn't your pick. But if you want to up your game with a likeable, talented coach who knows where the fish are and how to land them, Firl Outfitters is a great choice. We plan to go again!
