Boca Grande is home to various species of fish, however, there's no doubt which one rules the bay when it comes to action and excitement. Tarpon is well known for its incredible strength and thrilling, powerful runs and jumps.
Captain Christopher Taylor is strongly devoted to catching Tarpon. Targeting Silver King is a Taylor family tradition. Capt. Taylor uses many different strategies and methods for catching Tarpon, most commonly the use of live bait around bridges, deep passes, and beaches.
Capt. Taylor operates out of 'Savannah,' a custom-built 21' Clearwater 2000cc bay boat. She's been originally built to the Captain's standards in 2019. This vessel allows you to fish in the water as shallow as 10 inches, but still able to cut through heavy chop when conditions get breezy. There's a lot of fishing space and a shaded T-top for hot summer days. The boat also has a Bluetooth stereo, so feel free to bring your favorite playlist!
Boca Grande Pass is a deep water channel that attracts Tarpon during their spawning season. The best months for fishing are late April through early August.

My son and I had a blast on our first Tarpon trip with Captain Chris. He gave us a run down on how to use the gear and what to expect. Captain Chris was easy going and fun to chat with. The commands he called out were easy to follow to get the line to the appropriate depths. We had some bites , hooked a few , and landed a Tarpon! Would definitely recommend and book again.

Fishing live bait in deep water is not favored way of fishing but I had caught only juvenile tarpon on a fly rod and this was probably my only to land a large one. Captain Taylor worked very hard and longer than he was contracted for to finally get my first big one. He estimated it at 140 pounds. Going with him again tomorrow.
I booked with Capt Christopher because he was the only charter that booked trips outside of the 8 am to 4 pm window. The best Tarpon fishing in Boca Grande pass is highly correlated to the tides and not the 8 am to 4 pm times most other charters operate. While you can catch Tarpon any time of the day your odds are greatly improved if your fishing during their active feeding times and that is when having a knowledgeable guide comes into play and Capt Christopher is that guide. Having relocated last year to Charlotte Harbor Capt Christopher's freely shared his techniques so not only did we catch Tarpon I learned valuable tips which will greatly improve my fishing in the future. So if your a local looking to improve your skills or just here on vacation wanting catch that magnificent sportfish I would highly recommend booking with Capt Christopher

It was a pleasure fishing with you!

My wife and I had an awesome tarpon fishing trip with Captain Christopher. He was diligent in helping to select the best day for our trip based on tidal patterns and it paid off big time. We started off on our first drift with each of us getting a nice bite but no fish. Soon after we hooked into the 175lb tarpon in the picture. Captain Christopher expertly navigated the boat while we reeled in this amazing fish. It was an amazing fight and a memory that will last forever. After catching this prize tarpon, my wife caught a nice tarpon in the 100lb range. Finally, I fought a third tarpon that eventually broke off the hook. It was truly an amazing experience. Captain Christopher gave us very clear directions for tarpon fishing and was attentive throughout out fishing trip. He knows the fishing grounds like the back of his hand and was able to insure that we had a memorable trip!
