When you’re thinking of the North Carolina coast, one thing comes to mind: extreme fishing. Operated by Captain Monty Childers, try your hand at a range of fishing. Having fished since he was a little boy, he gets the same thrill watching you reel in anything from a Mackerel to a Mahi.
Step aboard a 37’ Grady White center console and get ready to make your dreams come true. Powered by three 300 HP Yamaha offshore engines, you’ll reach a speed of up to 35 knots, getting you on the fish faster than the rest. She also comes equipped with Garmin navigational equipment. You’ll have a private bathroom on board, an essential on longer trips, especially as you make use of the free water on board.
You’ll take advantage of the live bait well on board, with bait prepared before your trip, and outriggers will also help you troll. On the reefs, try jigging and bottom fishing, while further out, wait for the reels to start screeching and jump to the rods to start reeling in a big one. Expect to go after Snappers, Groupers, Mackerels, and Cobia when hitting the nearshore. While offshore, you could catch anything from a spectacular Sailfish to a delicious Mahi Mahi.
Head up to 65 miles offshore to be at one with the marine life around you. The biggest fish live here and you’ll be amazed as you gaze upon these monsters. With snacks provided on board, you’re in for a treat throughout with Captain Big Fish. An Unforgettable Day on the Water with Captain Big Fish!
Half Day Trip – Nearshore (PM) on August 1, 2025 • 6 adults
From start to finish, our trip with Captain Monty and First Mate Tanner was nothing short of epic. We had a party of four — for two, it was their very first time on a boat in the ocean, while the other two had been on several fishing charters before. By the end, all four agreed the Captain Monty provides more than a fishing trip, he provides an EXPERIENCE!!
We reeled in several lively Spanish Mackerel, but the real thrill came when we hooked into some massive Barracuda—one of which put up the fight of a lifetime. The final Barracuda battle was so intense, it drew the attention of a Tiger Shark circling nearby! That’s when First Mate Tanner, with perfect timing, declared we needed AC/DC energy.
From the boats best-in-class sound system, “Thunderstruck” blasted across the water, electrifying the moment and giving us the FIRE to land that beast. It felt like a scene out of an action movie—adrenaline, music, and ocean spray all around.
This was far more than just a fishing trip—it was an EXPERIENCE we’ll be talking about for years. Whether you’re new to the ocean or a seasoned angler, Captain Big Fish delivers an unforgettable adventure. We are already planning our next adventure.

Fantastic Trip with Captain Monty and Jackson

We had a great morning on the water with Camp Monty and Mate Jackson! The boat was immaculate when we arrived and stayed that way throughout thanks to Jackson's constant attention to detail. Both Capt Monty and Jackson were patient explaining everything to the 13 and 14 year old boys that were with us on the trip. We didn't catch a lot of fish, but got enough to keep us all engaged. During the lulls, great conversation, music, and hospitality made the overall experience wonderful. We will definitely come back for another shot at at some mackerel and that big barracuda we were stalking!

My husband, 4 preteens and myself went out with Captain Big Fish. I cannot say enough amazing things about Captain Monty and his mate, Jaxson. The boat was spotless, Jaxon even cleaned up messes immediately after catching fish.
Both of them have incredible personalities. Captain Monty is full of laughs, helpful, and has a great playlist. Jaxon is so knowledgeable, super helpful, fun and was absolutely brilliant with my kiddos. Captain did everything he could to keep us on fish the entire time we were out with him.
There’s not a thing we would change about our trip out with him. Can’t wait to go out with him again next year.

Another phenomenal time Captain Monty and his first mate Jaxson. The boat is incredible and the crew is my favorite. I've been out on so many trips I lost count. From the keys to Costa Rica ever since I was a teenager. At almost 50, this crew is my favorite.
Epic weather. Great conversation. Crew was one step ahead of everything. Nabbed some Spanish right away and trolled for kings. The kings weren't biting and Captain Monty didn't waste any time calling an audible. We moved to bottom fishing about 18 miles out and had a field day, slamming grouper, black bass, grunts and even a trigger. We will be eating good for a long long time.
My son and I won't even consider another captain on the NC coast as long Captain Monty is at the dock.

Stop looking and book your next trip with Capt Big Fish aka Capt Monty. My family and I had a great time fishing with Capt Monty and first mate Jackson. They worked hard to put us on the fish and kept us entertained the entire trip. We caught fish of course which is the goal, but we also enjoyed talking and soaking up the scenery and sun on board Capt Monty’s very nice boat. He is such a personable and talkative Captain, making you feel like you are fishing with a friend and just joking and staying so relaxed no matter if you are on or off the fish. One of party wasn’t feeling their sea legs and Capt Monty helped make them feel at ease and get through their tough time. All in all, it was a great morning onboard Captain Big Fish’s vessel and I would do it again and again. Very nice boat, nice equipment, knowledgeable crew and even better company to make you feel like more than just a charter. Thanks again Captain Monty and Jackson for a wonderful time and hope to do it again some time!
