La Shina Sport FishingÂ
Leave the bustling cultural hub of La Paz behind, and discover the open seas' serene beauty. La Shina Sport Fishing invites you to explore the incredible marine life of the Gulf of California. Its mixture of reefs and unnaturally deep spots close to shore makes it a melting pot of extraordinary fish. The boat is operated by two captains, Jose and Carlos. Captain Jose Veliz has been fishing these waters for over 15 years, running charters for over 10, and claims his biggest thrill is seeing customers enjoying themselves. Carlos Ojeda Espinoza has 30 years of sport fishing experience and knows the area like his back pocket!
Trips take place aboard a 22' Super Panga center console. A compact but agile vessel, she can traverse all kinds of water, and can accommodate up to 4 guests plus the crew. She offers some shade so that you can keep out of the sun, but you can also revel in it, with plenty of open space, too. She's also a serious fishing boat. Fitted with outriggers, tuna tubes, and a live well, you'll be on top as you try to lure and reel in some huge fish.
Hit the reefs for some exceptional nearshore fishing. Try bottom fishing to entice delicious Snappers and Groupers, and you may also catch Spanish Mackerel, exotic Roosterfish, and more. Try snorkeling for an extra cost to swim closely with these beautiful specimen. When offshore, the waters are deep and the fish are huge. From beautiful, prized Marlin, to delicious Tuna and Mahi Mahi, you'll need all your strength to hook 'em aboard.
At the end of your trip, the first mate will clean and prepare your fish for you to take to a restaurant and have it served up to you. From the start of the day â when you'll be picked up at a hotel of your choice â right through to the end, you'll be the boss. Trips with La Shina Sport Fishing have it all. All ages are welcome aboard, so come and make the most of these outstanding waters.

I went out 3 times on La Shina with Jose Veliz. The first day only caught one fish, but as I said at 45lbs biggest dorado I ever caught. Jose saw the fish break water, turned the boat around went back chummed a little and got the lines out. It took about 10 minutes, and I had a big dorado on. It took about 25 minutes to boat the fish, but with some help from Jose the fish was landed. The next 2 trips we caught roosters and some snapper. Things were a little spotty for all the boats, but Jose never lingered in one spot, he was always om the move. His desire to produce was evident. He worked hard, even string fishing in the shallows where the snappers live to get a couple. If you go with him, you certainly won't be disappointed with his effort or his knowledge of where and when to go. I may come back in Feb or March, if so, I will book again with Jose.
I had not been sport fishing for decades, my daughter went once last year. Captain Eduardo was great, nice guy, easy to talk to and really knows where to find fish. It was a little windy on open water, so we went to a protected spot near Is. Espiritu Santo. We caught a skipjack (Eduardo used it for bait) and one dorado each. The are spectacular fish to see and catch. After that spot slowed down, we tried a few others that were quiet. Just when I thought we were done for the day, we each caught another dorado. Eduardo sent us to a nearby restaurant for an amazing dinner and plenty left for the next day.

Had a great time, Captain Eduardo was very knowledgeable, got to do a little sight seeing saw cliffs and mangrove forest. They can target any species you ask. I chose Dorado (Mahi Mahi) unfortunately no bites from them but since the charter captains communicate with one another, they reported high marlin activity in a specific area and ended up hooking onto one! They can fillette it and cook it at the restaurant on land.
Our trip was a success!!! Captain Freddy was very delightful and knew exactly where to go...not sure who was more excited when we caught the fish, Freddy or us!!đ€Łđ„° The reservation process was easy effortless and coming home with a cooler full of fish made the cost of the trip a bargain!!! would denifitely recommend and we will go again next year when back in town!

The captain knew where to find Mahi Mahi and was very cool. The boat had plenty of space and good shade. Would definitely recommend to do it during peak season. The restaurant right next to the marina prepared the fish very well and was a great price.

Captain Jose Veliz has been fishing the Gulf of California's warm waters since around 2003. He enjoyed being on the water so much that in 2008, he decided to start running charters, to share his knowledge with others. While he still loves getting out on the open sea, he gets his biggest kick out of seeing customers land as many fish as possible, and ending the day with a big smile on their faces.
