By booking a trip with Fernando's Tour you give Captain Fernando or Captain Ponchito permission to make your day unforgettable. You will be amazed at the incredible species that you can catch and observe in the great Sea of Cortez.
Organized by Captain Fernando, who has been fishing for more than 15 years, big game species will be pursued. The most frequently caught species are Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, Marlin, Yellowtail, Yellowfin Tuna and more. There are also fish that you can catch when you stay closer to shore, such as Grouper, Snapper, and Roosterfish.
Our great friend Captain Alfonso Macías, better known as Ponchito, also helps us organize fishing trips. He comes from a family of fishermen, as a captain he has 24 years of experience. He has participated in many tournaments as well as won several, his specialty is trolling, bottom fishing, live bait. He has caught Marlin, sailfish, horse mackerel, tuna, dorado, wahoo, among other species. He has been lucky enough to participate a couple of times in the biggest tournament in Baja el Bisbee.
You will start your trip from the magnificent port of La Paz and you will board the 25' boat called 'Fortuna'. It is powered by a 225 HP Yamaha engine, has a tank to keep the bait alive and fresh, and has ice banks. There is enough space for 4-5 guests to fish at the same time, so bring your friends or family. Children are also welcome, as long as they are over 5 years old.
Fernando's Tour supplies you with fishing equipment such as Penn and Shimano rods, reels, and hooks. Live Mackerel bait is caught during the trip if you want to use it, which is a great warm-up practice for real trophies. You will also have soft drinks and beer on the boat, but you will need to cover your food and sun protection.

We had an amazing time with Jairo, starting at ~7am, we caught a smaller Mahi Mahi at around 9am that was returned to the ocean, then a huge Mahi Mahi at 10:30am that we kept for dinner! We then trailed the ocean for the next 4 hours or so until we FINALLY caught one more good one. Jairo filleted the fish for us and called to make a booking at his friend's restaurant for that evening, where our catch was cooked 3 different ways for us all to try. Great day, great music, great vibes, great fish, super experience overall!
Fernando was an amazing guide. Patient, professional and highly skilled fisherman. Ended up catching Dorado, SkipJack, and Mahi mahi. Fernando and Alberto filleted the fish while we went swimming and gave us directions to a restaurant that cooked it for us while we waited. Amazing experience. Will rebook when we return.
Two of us went out with Captain Eddy and his deck hand to catch Dorado or yellow fin. weather was perfect and the sites were great. we caught live bait then went out. We had several big hits but only ended up with one nice size mackerel. Captain Eddy tried everything and even extended our 5 hour trip to 7 hours at no charge. He did his best but any fishermen knows some days they aren't biting good. But everything was GREAT!!!
The weather was amazing, but that was only a small part of a great trip. Fernando and Hito make a great team and they were able to get us on the fish and we hit over three different species, but the star of the show was the 44 pound yellowtail I hooked into and Fernando was able to expertly gaff and get onto the boat. He did a great job of keeping the entertainment going with music, good jokes, cold water and sodas again, cannot recommend this group this team enough you will have fun. You will more than likely catch fish and you'll have lots of good memories to take home. La Paz is amazing and so it's people I can't wait to get back.
We had an absolutely fantastic time on this fishing charter, and it's definitely a five-star experience for us. Even though we only caught one fish, the guide's energy and enthusiasm made the whole trip a ton of fun. Plus, they went above and beyond by cleaning the fish for us and giving us some great recipes to try at home. And we really appreciated that they let us stay out on the water longer than planned—those extra hours were awesome. Finally, they were super knowledgeable about the area and shared tips on other things to do and about the local wildlife. Overall, couldn't have asked for a better day. Five stars for sure!
