Backwater Tarpon Fishing PR

CAngrejos Yacht Club
San Juan, Puerto Rico

Backwater Tarpon Fishing Charters specialize in TARPON FISHING using light tackle and fly fishing. Tarpon are one of the most sought-after game fish and the Backwater Lagoons are the best place to find them!

If you are looking to fish for tarpon? Don’t look further! Our location is the mecca for tarpon fishing in Puerto Rico. We recently moved from San Juan Bay to the Laguna Torrecilla/San Jose which got ranked one of the top 10 spots for tarpon fishing. Why? Our vast lagoon is perfect for marine life, providing infinite sources of bait all year round for our resident fish. Contrary from San Juan Bay which you would encounter average of 15-25lb tarpon, in the lagoons we encounter 60-90lb tarpon. So get your big boy pants on and come fishing with Backwater Tarpon PR!

5 minutes away from SJU airport and 10-12min from Condado/Old San Juan/Isla Verde. Our main battle grounds include the Laguna San Jose and the Laguna Torrecilla, known worldwide for their massive and vast amount of tarpon living on these areas!

Our Boat
You’ll be fishing on a 19 ft. long bay boat which can accommodate groups of up to 4 fishermen per trip. Flats boats are the perfect vessel for tarpon fishing as the flat deck gives you the freedom to walk effortless around the boat while minimizing the risk of falling and/or getting the line to touch the boat or getting tangled with the engine. The boat is outfitted with a conventional range of navigational technology and fish finding equipment, including GPS, Fishfinder and radio.

Fishing license and all the appropriate fishing tackle for your inshore trip is supplied by the Backwater team, complete with both artificial and live bait. Snacks and beverages (bottled water and soft drinks) are also provided for your enjoyment.

We recommend to try our 4HR Tarpon Fishing charter for better chances on catching that dream tarpon you have been dreaming for!

Owning and operating a fishing charter in San Juan PR is a dream come true. I was corrupted at an early age watching my fishing hero’s on ESPN outdoors wrangle saltwater species of every variety – and from the time I landed my first Tarpon at age 6 I knew there was nothing else I’d rather do with my life.

We had a great afternoon on the water with Captain Felix! It was a beautiful day and my husband and I both caught Tarpon! We also caught a Barracuda and a Snook! My husband hooked a 60+ pound Tarpon, but he bit the hook in half! Those fish are crafty! It really was a fun trip and we would recommend it to anyone wanting to do a little fishing while in PR.

This trip exceeded my expectations!  Capt Clery was prompt, friendly, informative, and treated me like I was an old fishing buddy.
We had a great time - and we caught fish!  Seven tarpon and one barracuda in the boat. Also, three other hookups that released the hook in a jump.  It was a lot of excitement for my first tarpon trip.
Overall, a great afternoon of sharing stories and catching fish!
