My 11yr old fishing maniac loved it. I had 4 kids on the trip and we had some bites. A couple were noticeably big tarpons but this type of fishing compared to small river and lake fishing is a lot different and kids jumped to rods a bit quick and the captain tried his best to coach them. He was truly amazing with the kids. My boy landed a barracuda toward the start of the trip. We could see fish swimming around and jumping and even tried a couple of other spots and bait but the fish just werent as willing to take the hook. We did the 4 hour trip so maybe trying an additional spot or two would have landed something but as with all fishing…some days you land a lot and some days you dont and you just enjoy being out in nature watching the fish jump and try to avoid you! and you practice patience a d trust in the guide. I think we fed a lot of fish and we fed some pelicans!

We had a wonderful time on our fishing trip with Captain Abi! Even though the fish weren't cooperating that day, the experience was still fantastic. Captain Abi was incredibly patient, friendly, and made sure we had a great time from start to finish. He was knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and created a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere on the water. You can tell he genuinely cares about his guests having a memorable experience, regardless of the day's catch. We really appreciated his positive attitude and professionalism, and we'd happily book another trip with him. Highly recommend!
This was my 3rd trip with backwater Tarpon. I booked two back to back trips last year in Aug 2025 but we didnt have much luck catching any Tarpons. I booked another trip (April 2026) becuase i wanted to redeem myself and check off Tarpon of my list. We barely had anytime to sit and relax. bites after bites, crazy fights!! "Mateo" our captain, great guide and a very experienced angler. He knew exactly where the Tarpons were feeding.. As we got to the feeding zone, it was game on. And the cherry on top? we landed a Monster Tarpon as we were wrapping up!! If you're on fence about booking a trip with BWT? don't think about it, just do it.
Captain Mateo was amazing. He knew all the tips to find tarpon. We saw them in all the spots we tried. We had a few bites but none of them stayed on the line (such is fishing!). We did catch 2 barracuda though, and we learned a lot about tarpon and fishing for them. Captain Mateo was great with my 13yo son and had great stories and tips for our visit too. The only thing that was tricky was finding their temporary dock, but they communicated well and were very helpful. Highly recommend.
They’re big, smart and aggressive. hard to catch but sure are fun when you land one! Captain Mateo is an experienced fisherman and licensed driver. This trip is good for rookies or pros. He guided us to some action! No fish tale, we got into some big ones, just couldnt land ‘em. We’d go again!
