Your guide for the day is a 100-Ton Master Captain with decades of experience fishing Long Island Sound and its surrounding estuaries and bays.
Capt. Bill invites you aboard his 41’ Hatteras saltwater fishing boat, equipped with state-of-art electronics, fishing tackle, and safety gear. She has downriggers and outriggers for trolling, a fighting chair for battling big game fish, and a flybridge so you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Sound.
The boat accommodates up to 6 guests per trip, featuring a spacious air-conditioned cabin with a kitchen, shower, private toilet, bed, and plenty of space to just kick back and relax. Capt. Bill welcomes families and kids of all ages to join in on the action but asks that parents bring their own kids’ life jackets.
You’ll explore eastern Long Island Sound, Block Island Sound, and Gardiners Bay to target a range of delicious species. The list includes Flounder, Striped Bass, Black Seabass, Porgy, Bluefish, and more. Capt. Bill also offers special Shark fishing trips, where you’ll battle against apex predators such as Thresher and Mako!
You’ll be provided top-notch rods and reels made by Penn, as well as live bait and lures. Your fishing license is covered by the boat and after the trip, the crew will offer to clean your catch so you can take it home and throw it on the grill!

Half Day Trip (AM) on July 9, 2025
Booked a half day trip for me, my son and two son-in-laws and we had a great time. Captain Bill told us the plan, go for stripers first, then do some bottom fishing. We ended up getting five stripers that we could keep. Was an awesome experience. Then on to bottom fishing. We had some tough conditions with the tide and wind but we managed to catch a bunch of sea bass and other random fish. I thought Captain Bill did a great job and was determined to make sure we had a good experience. Jimmy, the first mate, did an amazing job helping us out. He was a fun guy to talk to during the trip. All the equipment was in great condition. We had one crossed line mess but Jimmy remedied it quickly. The boat was a little dated and didn’t match the picture, but it did the job. I would definitely recommend this charter.

Had my 10 year old nephew and some family out with Captain Bill and First Mate Jimmy. They were so amazing: communicative, helpful, kind and thoughtful. They were especially lovely with my nephew, ensuring he got lots of special attention and “the big one”! We caught lots of fish, enjoyed the people around us, and will definitely book again. Huge recommend 10/10.

Captain Bill Lopes comes from a long line of fishermen and lobstermen and, has been fishing off the coast of Connecticut ever since he was a young boy. He’s been a USCG licensed Master Captain since 1992 and he currently holds a Near Coastal 100-Ton License as well. Before starting his own business, Capt. Bill worked as a captain on other fishing charters and operated private tugboats and barges off of the East Coast. After years of hard work and dedication, he bought his own boat, started running his own charters, and he’s loved it ever since. Capt. Bill invites families and kids of all ages to join him on an exclusive adventure and catch loads of exciting fish with Starship Charters!
