See the other side of fishing in Mexico aboard “Cancun Light Tackle & Fly Fishing Tours”! You’ll explore the calm waters of the Nichupte Lagoon. This inshore fishing haven is in the Cancun Hotel Zone and there’s no one better to show you around than the longest standing guide service in Cancun.
The Nichupte Lagoon which is a brackish reserve that consists of 5 different systems, all connected to each other. Many of these lagoons have national park status and no motorized boats or wave runners are allowed, ensuring the waters are always calm.
The vessel you will be fishing aboard is a 2010 18’ Hell’s Bay Neptune flats boat. She can carry two adult guests who are both able to fish at the same time and can cruise at an impressive 40 knots. There are life jackets in all sizes for your safety and an ice box for your drinks and snacks.
You’ll target an impressive range of gamey inshore fish. Go after Tarpon, Permit, Snook, and Bonefish in shallower waters and target Jack Crevalle, Barracuda, and Snapper a little further out. Remember, all fish caught aboard Cancun Light Tackle & Fly Fishing Tours are strictly catch and release. Snap a great photo and send your fish off to keep on swimming!
Both spinning tackle and fly gear, as well as a variety of lures and flies, await on board. The captain is sponsored by Eagle Claw and the reels are custom made for the type of fishing done in these waters.
Help yourself to the bottled water and soda drinks on board or bring your own. On 6+ hour trips you’ll also be treated a light lunch. The Mexican sun is strong so don’t forget your sun protection either! There’s an additional dock fee of US$10 per person.
Head out for fishing that’s great for the whole family aboard Cancun Light Tackle & Fly Fishing Tours!

3/4 Day Trip (AM) – Apr - Nov on April 13, 2025
After a thousand casts I finally was able to coerce one to take. Didn't even know it was on but Maurico assured and told me to keep stripping the line. My heart was pumping so fast I totally forgot how to fish. Couldn't believe that feeling when Mauricio finally handed me the beautiful fish. Snook fishing was tough. Precision casting is definitely not my forte but I was up for the challenge. I got my fly snagged in the mangroves so many times I almost gave up. I could see the frustration in Mauricio's face as he spotted spooked out snook nearby. Dang. Missed a few of them due to my casting, but as tough as it was, it was a great experience and would do it again. Got to see a few different places around the lagoon area. Man, it was so clear and beautiful. There's no guarantees when it comes to fishing but these guys will take you where you need to be. Thanks for the memories!

We had a great time fishing. We had a choice of using fly rods or spinning rods. Our guide Noel was very cheerful and helpful. And patient with our numerous line tangles! We caught snook, barracuda, skip jack, and red snapper. Noel cleaned the red snapper and I cooked it up that night. They provided a delicious box lunch with club sandwiches, chips, and cookies. Also water and sodas. It was a beautiful day and successful fishing trip. We fished numerous fishing spots, mangrove canals, open water, and cenote (sink holes on the lagoon) . At the end of the trip, we were given a complimentary ice cold cerveza!

Booked this 6 hour fishing excursion a few weeks back for my husband and my 10th Anniversary. We both love to fish but I cannot take the waves of deep sea fishing. Mau did warn is that the was "fishing, not catching" He worked very hard to make sure my husband had the opportunity to hook a Tarpon. Mau did just that. Husband hooked this prize fist three times but unfortunately was never able to bring one in the boat. "Slippery suckers" not really hut get some guidance from your guide before u start fishing for the different species. We caught jack caravelle, snapper, barracuda but tarpon is what the hubs really wanted. Maybe then your guide can teach some hints before you go out and lose the fish " that got away" but all and all, loved it! Great deal!

Guide found Tarpon for me within 20 minutes, and I casted at rising Tarpon over the next 3 hours, 6 good hits, landing 2, another 2 broke me off (maybe a barracuda, who knows) and I lost a great one as it jumped acrobatically a good 4 feet or more in the air. . . later he put me on snook. . . Taking a break for 2 days and going again with the same guide.

Half Day Trip (PM) on January 3, 2025
We had a 4 hour afternoon session in early January 25. Fishing took place in the Cancun lagoon area which is sheltered but we had serious winds so even this area was a bit choppy. To our surprise the boat did not have a trolling motor but the guide was professionally keeping us at the right spots with a long pole despite the winds and strong currents, so this was very well done, fishing was comfortable. The trip started on time at 3pm with a 10 minute ride to the first spot. We did not have many bites in at start so we always switched spots after 20-30 minutes if there was no or just a few bites. Short boat ride between spots took max. 5-10 minutes. During the 4 hour trip we fished several (around 6-7 spots) that were mostly similar, drifting on the edge of the mangroves in casting distance, shallow water. We do not use fly fishing gear so at booking we requested light spinning gears which were provided in good condition and set up for us, ready to cast with plastic baits. In the first 3 hours of the trip we caught only 2-3 fish (small barracuda and snook) but I also had a few actions that got off the hook before reaching the boat so fishing was moderately eventful. I expected a bit more at this point though we were new to this type of lagoon fishing so a more experienced fisherman may have had better success. Be prepared that you have to make precise casts to the edge of the mangroves to get more bites. This was not a problem for us but due to winds we tangled up on the mangroves a few times. This was not a problem the guide was very helpful and got it free every time without a remark. He also checked our lures and leader often and changed them if they got bitten or damaged. We thought we were about to end the trip with only a few fish caught, when the guide finally found a perfect spot and we still had around 30 mins left. This spot had many fish, we had bites on almost each cast. There we caught some snook and grouper which all fought well and most landed in the boat for a photo. Unfortunately sun was down and lights got low so we had to end our trip there but still, with this last spot, the trip turned out to be awesome. Trip ended almost exactly on time at 7pm.
