Barbarossa Fishing is a Bay Area fishing charter based out of Santa Cruz, California. Come and enjoy a day in nature as you explore the area’s beautiful and fish-rich nearshore and offshore waters. You’ll have Captain Justin Payton right there to help you and make sure you have a first-rate angling experience, so come aboard and create wonderful memories on the water!
Your trip will start on the ‘Barbarossa’, a 2015 25’ Parker pilothouse boat that can comfortably take 6 guests. It runs on two 150 HP Yamaha engines with a maximum cruising speed of 40 knots, features a flushing toilet, and is equipped with downriggers, outriggers and a livewell.
You’ll have the chance to fish the local reefs or travel up to Davenport to find large Lingcod. The captain also specializes in catching Salmon, Rockfish, Crab, Halibut, and other species. The techniques you can try out include deep and bottom sea fishing, trolling, and jigging. You can keep all of your catch if you want and you’re free to bring kids on your trip. Salmon trips are fully booked for 2025 season.
Captain Justin will provide you with all the rods, reels, tackle, live bait, and lures. You only need to bring fishing licenses and the food and drinks of your choice.

🎣 Unforgettable Fishing Trip with Barbarossa Fishing! 🐟

We booked a trip with Barbarossa Fishing for my best friend's bachelor party, and it was hands down one of the best experiences we've ever had on the water! From the moment we stepped on the boat, Captain Tuk made us feel right at home. His energy, expertise, and sense of humor made the day not just fun but absolutely unforgettable.
We were out on the water for 7 hours, and I kid you not, we were catching fish the ENTIRE time. It felt like every cast brought in a new thrill, and Captain Tuk knew exactly where to take us to keep the action going. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just out for a good time with the crew, this trip had it all.
The boat was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, and the whole experience was smooth from start to finish. We couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate, and we'll definitely be booking with Barbarossa Fishing again.
Huge shoutout to Captain Tuk for making it a bachelor party we’ll be talking about for years. If you're thinking about a fishing trip don’t think twice. Call Barbarossa!

Great day out with Captain Justin
Mid-day 3 hour trip on May 25, 2025 • 3 adults
All three people in our group have never fished on the west coast and 2/3rds of us don’t fish artificial normally. Justin was incredibly helpful with helping those two catch fish in a fishing with which they weren’t familiar.
We also fished with some dead baits just off the bottom and caught some larger fish that way.
It was forecast to start getting windy throughout the morning. Instead of canceling the trip like we’ve experienced back home before, Justin helped us find the best window of time to get out on the water safely and have the best fishing experience possible.
There was also an incident where another boat was coming straight at us as we were finishing a drift - Justin’s great situational awareness and quick response to the situation was crucial and insanely impressive.
If you’re looking for a captain that knows his grounds & can get you on the fish, respects the weather and is ready for anything that could go wrong on the water, this is the charter you want.

5 in my group (family), first time using Captain Justin's services, it was great and my family loved it...caught our limit in about 2.5 hours, and then some lingcod... my son said the Capt. is a cool guy. We bought this trip for our father for Father's Day and it did not disappoint. We had amazing trip with Captain Tuk. All 6 of us were able to catch at least 1 fish and the captain was extremely helpful and fun throughout the entire charter. We would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great fishing experience. We will be doing it again.
