Waymaker Charters offers you sunset cruises and fishing trips on the beautiful Albemarle Sound. It’s got everything you need to catch a variety of prized species and have fun on the water. Whether you’re looking to fish, crab, search for dolphins, or just enjoy a day out on the water, Waymaker Charters got you covered! Their pontoon will provide a comfortable trip for your party and all the trips are family-friendly and great for the kids. Come aboard and enjoy a true fishing adventure on the Outer Banks of North Carolina!
You’ll fish with Captain Ryan from a 22’ Sweetwater pontoon boat that has room for up to 6 people. It’s powered by a 115 HP Suzuki engine, uses a fishfinder system for navigation, and features an ice-box to store your fish and drinks.
You and the captain will use spinning on light tackle to attract your prey. The species you’ll target are Speckled Trout, Sheepshead, Flounder, Redfish, and Black Drum. You can choose whether you’ll keep your catch and take it home or just release it back into the water.
Waymaker Charters will provide you with all the fishing gear, licenses, as well as fish cleaning and filleting. The gear includes rods, reels, tackle, live bait, as well as lures. All you need to bring is your favorite food and drinks.

Great Day on the Sound!

Second time booking with Waymaker Charters (Gratitude) and Captain Ryan. Ryan is extremely fun to go out and fish with, and very knowledgeable about the area, fishing, and hilarious to be out on the water with! The whole family had a great time, even the Mrs who has no interest in fishing :)
We caught 40+ croakers for live bait to start the morning off, which was a lot of fun, and then reeled at least a half-dozen keeper trouts that made for a great lunch when we got home.
Great time for all and highly recommended! Thank you again, hope to be back with you next year.

We have a very fun and enjoyable trip, started by catching our bait for the day quickly then off to another spot to catch sea trout. Every caught multiple fish and we actually reached out limit with time left in the trip which was great. We fished for some other types of fish for the rest of the time and had an enjoyable ride through the sound. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining. The boat was comfortable and has plenty of space for our 5 guests. The kids had a great time and would recommend this charter to others looking for a fun trip to catch fish.

2 Hour Afternoon Trip (3:30pm) on July 17, 2025 • 5 adults • 1 child
I took my wife and four kids out for a 2 hour trip the captain talked to us about what we wanted to do and I told him we would like to catch some fish. We made a quick run out and grabbed some bait that he set all four of my kids up with a pool and then off to where there was some bigger fish and we started fishing we did catch 6 fish In a. Very short time. The caption was fun and worked with everyone and my kids had a blast. We will be going back to do it again.

Capt Ryan was friendly and fun to work with. Gave clear instructions and we did land dinner trout. Only comment for future consideration is that 1/3 of the rental time was dedicated to us traveling and us catching bait to use for fishing. Have done many charters in NC and perhaps this being our first out of Wanchese, it par for the course. More of a comment than a negative. Would prefer the cost and time on boat be dedicated to fishing for keepers than bait. Would rent again with them for certain but would address this prior for all.
Again, Ryan was wonderful and we had some good dinner tonight.

Some days catching live bait is gonna be your best bet for catching trout. Today was pretty windy so casting and jigging for them would have been tough. That said we are flexible to what folks want to do so just let us know next time. Glad y’all enjoyed your trip, appreciate you booking with us

Ryan(the captain, not go with names) is funny and very knowledgeable about the fishing area. The day was the hottest of the week 6/25, very humid and hardy any wind. We caught fish most wasn’t in season, had to throw them back. Ryan moved us around to where the bait fish was, hooked up a lot but lost them on us. Overall I will book them again.
