Maragata Charters - Matt’s Cat

Harbour Drive 110 Palmas Del M…
Humacao, Puerto Rico

Matt’s Cat is a 38ft. power catamaran powered by twin Cummins 450 HP diesel engines, with a maximum capacity of 10 people. The boat is inspected by the USCG every year, and features a range of navigational equipment such as GPS, Fishfinder and radio, as well as a bathroom and a fighting chair on board.

Captain Matt specializes in both big game and light tackle fishing, and enjoys the feeling of freedom his job as a Captain gives him. He has more than 35 years of experience, and provides not only sport fishing, but also snorkeling as well as a combination of two. He and his mate Frank speak both English and Spanish. He’s been trained by USCG for emergencies, as well as by Red Cross when it comes to First Aid.

Most fish caught aboard Matt’s Cat fit in the range of between 10 and 80 pounds. There are also, however, large Marlins in these waters, which can weigh anywhere from 100 to as much as 600 pounds. Some of the more common catches when fishing with Captain Matt include Wahoo, Dorado, Tuna, Billfish (Blue and White Marlin, Sailfish), Barracuda, Amberjacks, King Mackerel and more.

All fishing equipment (and lures) for your party is supplied by Captain Matt. Snacks and drinks are included in the price, along with a cooler filled with ice. After your trip, the crew of Matt’s Cat will be happy to clean and bag your catch for you if you’d like to take it with you. Fishing licenses for all individuals fishing aboard Matt’s Cat are mandatory, and are provided by the Captain.

The Captain and Frank were awesome !! We had to deal with Mother Nature issues as well as the majority of the group suffering from sea sickness. Even still they kepted fish on the lines, and were able to help most everyone recover.

We had a great time fishing, started out with meeting Capt Matt and First Mate Frank and the boat Matt’s Cat, who talked us through what to expect. Can tell both were very experienced with deep sea fishing. Great memories with my family fishing for the first time in the ocean. Ended up catching a hand full of Barracuda’s, two Mahi-Mahi,  and a 40 pound Wahoo. Will always remember this trip and highly recommend to anyone wanting to fish while in Puerto Rico.

We had a great time. The only thing that didnt top off our excursion was the fact that we only caught barracuda, which was a fun fish to catch.however we were really hoping to keep some of our catch to cook at home later and you cant keep and eat the barracuda. So you may specify that you would like to try and catch a fish that you can keep. The crew was fantastic and very helpful and friendly.Next time we come to P.R. we will come back here without a doubt. We would probably do an all day excursion and a smaller group and try to catch fish we can keep for dinner.
