Good Time Charlie Sportfishing is located in Newport, Oregon and runs ocean fishing trips out of South Beach Marina for halibut, salmon, rockfish, lingcod, tuna, and crab. Our goal is to provide a fun and safe experience with memories to last a lifetime. Whether this is your first trip on the ocean or you're an old salty dog, we will work with you to provide the experience you're looking for.
Capt. Joe will work hard make sure you have a fun day of fishing. He's also happy to take families with little kids because he believes sharing experiences on the ocean at an early age fosters love of the ocean for a lifetime. Good Time Charlie Sportfishing is happy to customize a family trip for you if you have small children.
Your fishing adventure starts on a 27' Northwest boat with a full cabin that can safely take up to 6 anglers and keep everyone dry on the ride to the fishing grounds. The boat has down riggers for trolling and power assist reels for deepwater halibut fishing.
All rods, reels, and terminal tackle are included in the price so you can focus on what really matters, having fun fishing. Please make sure to buy a valid fishing license ahead of time.

Captain Joe did an awesome job teaching and encouraging the kids and adults. The boat was clean and tidy. He had all the equipment and tackle to keep us fishing. Definitely going to do it again when we’re back in the Oregon.

Full Day – Salmon Shared on July 9, 2025 • 2 adultsI have nothing but good things to say! Joe was fantastic from start to finish! He was communicating with my wife and I months before the charter all the way until the morning of the charter. Answered every question we had making this part of our trip very stress free! We had a great day on the water catching our limit of 10 hatchery raised coho salmon for the boat and releasing many wild fish. With only a few salmon left to finish our limit Joe used his local knowledge and went out of his way to give us a discovery channel experience! Birds diving, porpoises jumping, whales breaching, sea lions swirling and the best of all fish being caught! Joe was very accommodating to all of our needs in the boat and on shore. Once caught, our fish were immediately taken care of and put on ice for the best fillet quality. Our fish were cleaned and bagged for us on shore for a very reasonable price. Joe even shared some of his favorite recipes with us and the best ways to take care of our meat! Book this trip now before it is too late! You will not regret it. We will be booking again!

Joe showed us a good time on the water and got us on the fish. Joe had great communications prior to the trip and was simultaneously professional and laid back during the trip, making him a pleasure to fish with. No stress, just catching some nice lings and rock fish. He catered well to the experienced and inexperienced anglers in our crew. Highly recommend!

appreciate the kind review Legrand. Wish the ocean was a little more gentle early on. But i thought we did very well in the less than ideal conditions early on and really got it going once our drift slowed a little late in morning. 10 lingcod was high boat in the fleet nearshore (including the big charters!). thanks again!!

Captain Joe is great! He stayed in touch with us before our trip and made sure we were well prepared. Some of us were worried about being seasick and he was very accomodating. We are completely new to any kind of fishing and we had a great time, caught a bunch of fish, and the only thing better than the fishing was the company - if we are ever back in the Newport area we’ll for sure go fishing again with Captain Joe.

For Captain Joe, there's something magical about being on the ocean; the experiences he's had on the water are some of the most memorable and vivid memories of his entire life. It's Captain Joe's goal to provide a memorable experience on the ocean that is safe and fun. He enjoys meeting new people and sharing what he knows about catching fish off the Oregon coast. One of his favorite experiences taking people out on the ocean is seeing them land their first Salmon, Halibut, or whatever kind of fish they're chasing. He's comfortable working with all ages and experience levels and will work hard to get you on the fish and make sure you have a great time. After four very successful seasons at the helm of Good Time Charlie, Captain Joe is excited to start his fifth season off the Oregon Coast!
