Captains Wayne and Chris are ready to show you the beauty of Vancouver Island and its world-renowned fisheries on Full Melt Charters. Our priorities are customer service, and catching fish, as our consistently positive reviews and reputation show.
Based in Sooke, BC, you’ll be positioned within minutes from massive salmon and halibut, ready for the taking.
You can expect a welcoming environment, full of positivity and encouragement. Captains Wayne and Chris are very personable, and you’re sure to love fishing with them!
On these trips, it’s common to troll for salmon, or jig bottom fish such as halibut. Fish caught during the trip are yours to take home, so long as they're within the legal limit. Wayne and Chris will offer to clean your catch for you, or to have it taken to a processor for shipping within Canada. Now that's dinner!
Trips with Full Melt Charters are open to the whole family and children of all ages, so get 'em offline and onto the water! Captains Wayne and Chris have a long history of outdoor leadership with children, and will always have a supportive, enthusiastic and encouraging attitude with your kids.
You'll be casting lines from a 23 foot Grady-White fishing boat with room for 5 passengers. It has electric down-riggers and all the essentials. You can always expect a clean boat, outfitted with top of the line fishing gear and navigational equipment. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Your captain will provide all the help and equipment you’ll need to catch fish, and you’ll notice his desire and willingness to spread his knowledge.
Captains Wayne and Chris will offer instruction and direction on how to land the fish, but the rod will be in your hands!
You will need to buy a local fishing license before the trip. This information is available online, or you can ask the captain.
It's always wise to bring extra layers, sunscreen, a hat, bottled water, and sunglasses. Alcohol is allowed in moderation.

Full Day Trip – Halibut Jigging
Awesome 👌 fishing trip!!
We had such a great time on our fishing trip!!! Captain Chris was a great gide and very knowledgeable, we learned a lot from him. We landed 3 Different types of salmon. Coho,Chinook,Pink. Captain Chris was very patient with us 4. He did everything like bait the lines for the fishing poles and took the fish off the hook for us. He showed is what fish we could keep and which to let go so we could keep within the Canadian 🇨🇦 rules for sustainability. We would highly recommend chartering with Full Melt charters. Full Day Trip – Halibut Jigging
Family Fishing
We went out salmon fishing mid July, two adults (mom & dad) and one teenager (daughter). Our captain contacted us the day prior to fishing and asked if we could come earlier in the morning due to inclement conditions. We set out fishing 5:15am, dropped two crab pots then headed out for salmon. As expected the water was rough due to wind but our captain did a superb job keeping us in calmer waters and we hit on so many fish. We were out 8 hours and hardly noticed because we were having so much fun. We came back with our full quota of 12 fish but probably let twice that many go (willingly and unwillingly). Our captain filleted all our fish and cleaned our crab. We would 100% recommend Captain Chris any day.

Full Day - Wildlife Custom Charter
Great experience for a family of first time anglers
We had a great day aboard the Full Melt with Captain Wayne. We had zero fishing experience and Captain Wayne guided us through the whole procedure. Knowledgeable, personable and chill, Captain Wayne does his best to make this experience enjoyable. We caught 14 Salmon and left happy. Totally exceeded our expectations. Just remember to layer up and wear wind proof clothes. We had a brilliant and calm day, but it’s cold on the water. Appreciated that there is a small toilet. A great experience and our teenage boys loved it. Thank you for a fabulous trip!

Afternoon Half Day- Salmon Trolling
Birthday blast!
We booked Full Melt last minute for my son's 10th birthday while visiting Vancouver Island this July. Captain Chris met us early at the dock for a half-day of salmon trawling. We had our two boys (10&12) with us, and he was great with them. Chris was very knowledgeable about the local area and the fishery generally, and had some great stories to tell. Even though we might not have visited at peak season, we probably caught about 12-15 coho, chinook and pink salmon throughout the charter (3 pinks to keep, the rest to photograph and return!). The best fish was probably a ten-pound chinook that my son reeled in all by himself. We quickly photographed, and Chris was great showing both boys how (and why) to revive the fish first, before returning to the ocean. On top of the fishing, we saw orcas, seals, crabs (for eating!) and got an expert lesson in ocean navigation at the end of our trip when the elements turned (as they can in the Strait) and we headed back the quick ten minutes to the wharf. Chris was an experienced and dedicated captain/fisherman and we had complete confidence with handling of the boat, even when the weather/current got a bit chippy at the end of the trip! In the end, it was a perfect experience for us, and we were so happy to have booked. Thanks again Chris!

A big thank you to Captain Wayne and Chris for making our trip memorable with your professional knowledge of the fishing area. You both taught us where to stand in the boat as we reeled in many fish, to keep reeling as the lure broke the surface and to keep the top of the rod high in the air. We truly appreciate you for giving back and making a difference in the community. You both help and accommodate us by allowing a wheelchair to be brought on board for one of our participants on this fishing trip. Captain Wayne generously donated a half day fishing charter as an auction item to help fund ten - $1000 scholarships in the Sooke community. Full Melt Charters is a 5 Star company!
