Captain Zac Horrocks is a NYS licensed guide and seventh generation Adirondacker who has been fishing the waters of the Adirondacks for his entire life and guiding in the area for over 19 years. He has experience guiding all over the world - including Martha’s Vineyard, Alaska, Japan, Belize, and Mexico - and has taken pieces of knowledge from each place to create an experience unique to the Adirondacks. Zac’s clients will access the lakes from a 22' Pathfinder, stocked with everything needed to enjoy a day on the water.

Whether you’re an experienced fisherman or this is your first time fishing, Capt. Zac will match the experience to each group’s abilities and preferences.

On your trip you might have the opportunity to catch Lake Trout, Brook Trout, Rainbow Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Yellow Perch, White Perch, Sunfish, Crappie, Northern Pike, and more, depending on the lake and time of year.

Methods of fishing may include spinning, fly fishing, trolling, drifting, jigging, bottom fishing, popping, depending on your preferences and what Capt. Zac thinks will give you the best chance at that particular day/time/location.

Kids are always welcome aboard! Children must wear life jackets.

Capt. Zac will provide:
• rods and reels (fly and spin)
• lures
• flies
• bait
• life jackets
• bottled water

What you’ll need to bring:
• NYS fishing license (can be purchased online or at the town hall)
• sunscreen
• hat and sunglasses
• lunch/snacks
• drinks (responsible alcohol consumption is allowed)

A Great Time with Capt. Zac

I booked a fishing outing with Zac Horrocks for my family during our stay in Lake Placid and we could not have been happier with the experience. Capt. Zac was a fantastic guide and was amazing working with our kids who have very limited fishing experience. He knew exactly where to take us on the lake for non-stop action that my son loved. Capt. Zac was even able to teach my daughter how to cast her own line for the first time and convince her to hold one of the fish she caught! I would recommend Capt. Zac to anyone interested in a fishing trip that will make memories for years to come and inspire kids to continue experiencing the great outdoors!

We had a great day out with Zac, fishing for bass and pike on the lakes around Saranac. He is a professional, well-organized guide. He is high-energy and very personable. I think he can easily work with all levels of ability. And I got the impression that he guides the family whose kids catch fish with worms for the first time to the guy that can cast a fly 60 feet off the bow of a flats boat. Super great time with Zac and look forward to lake trout fishing in the spring next year.

Fish, Laughs and Memories for a Lifetime

We had an amazing day out on Lake Placid with Captain Zac! We brought three kids (15, 12, and 5) and from start to finish, he made the trip a blast. He was incredibly laid-back, patient, and knowledgeable - the perfect mix for keeping everyone engaged. He put us right on the fish, and we caught so many it felt more like a catching trip than a fishing trip! The kids gave Captain Zac a rating of 109/10, and we have to agree - absolutely unforgettable experience!

We can’t say enough positive things about our trip with Captain Zac. His knowledge of the area and extensive fishing experience made for a memorable trip for our family. My two sons had different fishing backgrounds. One barely fished and the other is a fishing enthusiast. He was able to give each a fishing day at each of their levels. Both caught multiple fish. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on the lake. We would highly recommend him to anyone.

Couldn’t Think Of A Better Way to Spend an Evening on Lake Placid

I planned a trip up to the Lake Placid area as a surprise for my Boyfriends Birthday. Zac is one of the coolest people we’ve ever met. Not only was he a great teacher of fly fishing, he was also very educated about the area in general and had lots of fun stories to tell. We are already planning a trip back in May!
