South Padre Island has a fish with your name on it, so let South Water Charters help you catch it! Your guide for the day is Captain Skylar, allowing you to benefit from years of local experience.
Local species include Permit, Spanish Mackerel, Flounder, Redfish, Pompano, Whiting, King Mackerel (Kingfish), Black Drum, Sheepshead, Snook, and more, depending on the time of year. You'll target your catch by light tackle fishing, drifting, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Capt. Skylar can also have you Flounder gigging.
Thinking of bringing the whole family? Kids are absolutely welcome! Children must wear life vests, so find out if the appropriate size is available on board. Snacks are permitted onboard — bring your favorites so that nobody gets cranky on an empty stomach!
You'll be casting lines from a 24' Starcraft pontoon boat that holds up to 10 passengers. It comes with a fighting chair and all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. There's a toilet on board for your convenience. Capt. Skylar has rods and reels for you, as well as lures. Live bait is included, but you should ask the captain whether you'll be catching it yourself.
Before coming aboard, it will be necessary to buy a local fishing license for everyone in your group. This information is usually available online, or you can ask the captain. Some species might be protected or require a tag to keep them, so make sure you know what to expect.
Some essentials to bring are sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen (non-spray). There will be some drinks on offer, but let the captain know if you wish to bring your own. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, so long as you avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

Captain Wilhite was an outstanding captain and guide. We brought our two boys, ages 6 and 7, on their very first fishing trip, and he went above and beyond to make sure they felt comfortable, welcomed, and had a great time. He patiently walked them through the fishing process and kept them engaged throughout the trip. He was also friendly and personable with my wife and me, making the entire experience enjoyable for our family. His boat was clean, well-maintained, and clearly cared for. Best of all, we hit our limit! We highly recommend Captain Wilhite and look forward to fishing with him again.

It was a wonderful day. Like fishing with a good friend. Great time, family atmosphere. Captain Got us on fish even though the weather was not ideal, the fish were biting and the Pontoon boat really handled the choppy water no problem. What did we catch alot everyone left with fish, Speckled Trout, Sharks yummy and there were Reds, Sting Rays, Gaf top, and even a Hammerhead, lots to see along the way Pelicans, seagulls, even dolphin. Our Captain was right there to assist with baiting and casting, had the net ready, for every catch measuring and kept the good ones! On the dock photos taken, fish were cleaned and ready for lunch, just ask the Captain; there's a wonderful restaurant that will cook your catch. We definitely will be back!
Learned a lot, experienced a lot, and enjoyed devouring our catch to top off the experience. Captain Skylar by far, provided one of the most involved, insightful, engaging, and friendly experiences I have encountered with these types of charters. Everyone in our party enjoyed the thrill of a catch, had a laugh and a smile, and a lasting memory that was one of our highlights of the week in South Padre. Great experience!!

we had an awesome day! Captain Skylar was wonderful - very knowledgeable and accommodating. His boat was very comfortable, clean and well taken care of. We caught shark, trout, and kingfish. Captain Skylar knew spots where we caught our limit quickly and we are novice saltwater anglers. Highly recommend him! We will book with him again on our next trip to South Padre.
Skylar was great. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the Laguna Madre. There was a storm on its way in that made him have to change up his normal routine. But he kept us moving ahead of the storm. My 12 year old caught a big Black Drum, the biggest fish of the day and that made the whole trip. We followed some birds on the way in and caught a couple Trout. We are going to fry up our catch for fish tacos tonight. We will definitely book Skylar again. Had a great time.
