These waters are known for Striped Bass, Catfish, Crab, White Perch, and more – with any luck, it won’t be long before "Fish on!" For these species, you’re likely to troll, live line and/or bottom fish using light tackle.
Thinking of bringing the whole family? Children are absolutely welcome and we love having the kiddos on board. And, you can’t go wrong with snacks to maintain your energy throughout the trip!
You’ll be fishing aboard a spacious 41’ Gene Travers Downeast with space for 6 passengers. It comes with everything you need for a productive day on the water. There’s a toilet on board for your convenience. Rods, reels, and tackle are provided, as well as lures. Live bait is provided but you should ask the captain whether you’ll be catching it yourself.
A First Mate will be there to make sure everything is running smoothly. Mates work hard to make your trip count, so a 20% tip is customary.
The charter boat covers your fishing license, so all you have to do is look forward to your trip! Keep in mind that you may release some fish due to regulations. If you don’t know what to expect, ask the captain.
Don’t forget to bring sunglasses, sunscreen (non-spray), bottled water, and a hat. If you’d like to bring other drinks, just ask. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but try to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

Saturday Evening Special on August 2, 2025 • 6 adultsThis was our first charter experience fishing in Maryland and decided to do a scouting trip with Capt Gus. My family, friend and I had a great time on the water hunting rockfish and doing some bottom fishing. The rockfish were elusive and not biting at all, and while Capt Gus was apologetic for not landing any, his energy chasing them was awesome. We landed some catfish and he put us on the croaker and white perch. I will be scheduling another trip very soon and I highly recommend Capt Gus and the Ditch Hag for your fishing outings.
