If fly fishing or light tackle angling is your passion then we hope you’ll consider joining veteran guide Capt. Mark Sampson for a unique trip aboard the Fish’n Fly to hunt for Striped Bass, Speckled Trout, Bluefish, Redfish, and Sharks in the beautiful backcountry marshes, cuts, and creeks. As much a nature cruise as a fishing trip, these adventures offer wonderful opportunities to not only catch a variety of fish in clean shallow water, but also the opportunity to view the diverse array of wildlife that lives above and below the water of our coastal bays and barrier islands.
Maryland’s coastal waters have been Mark’s playground since he was a child and where he’s made his living as a full time fishing guide since 1987. An avid fly fisherman himself, Captain Mark has successfully guided fly anglers to the landing over a dozen IGFA world records and helped them hook up to most of the more popular inshore and offshore species found in Maryland waters. In March and April Mark guides anglers across the flats of the Florida Keys but May-November is when he can be found poling his customized 17-foot Maverick flats skiff “Fish’n Fly” in the quiet waters of Maryland’s coastal back bays.
Maverick skiffs have a reputation for being the perfect delivery platform to put anglers within casting range of spooky fish in mere inches of water. The Fish’n Fly is fast, quiet, and equipped with both a push pole and an electric motor to ensure a stealthy approach to our target species, and capable of comfortably whisking two anglers and your guide (Capt. Sampson) to fishing areas inaccessible to most other boats.
These are somewhat technical fishing trips which involve standing and casting lures or flies from the bow of the boat or occasionally from the marsh bank. Novice anglers are always welcome but, for this type of fishing, best success comes to those who have some level of accurate casting skills. Fly and spin casting lessons can be arranged prior to fishing if necessary.
