Fish Hatteras is your ticket to the stunning waters of Hatteras. Your guide for the day is Captain Wes, which allows you to benefit from years of local experience.
Depending on conditions, you might hook into Cobia, Redfish, Speckled Trout, Spotted Seatrout, Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel (Kingfish), Sheepshead, Blacktip Shark, Black Seabass, Gray Triggerfish, Red Snapper, and anything else that bites. Depending on the species you’re after, you may find yourself spinning, popping, trolling, drifting, jigging, bottom fishing, or maybe something more specialized in this area. Capt. Wes also offers fly fishing, but you may need to bring your own fly gear.
Capt. Wes welcomes children aboard, so go ahead and bring the whole family along! Be sure to ask if child-sized life vests are available, otherwise you should bring your own. Snacks are permitted onboard — bring your favorites to stay fueled throughout your trip!
You'll be casting lines from a 25' Southern Cross center console that holds up to 4 passengers. It has all the essentials no fishing machine can run without. Rods, reels, and tackle are covered by the charter, along with lures. Live bait is included if that is the technique required for the trip.
Your fishing license for the day is covered by the charter boat, just show up ready for a good time! Keep in mind that you may release some fish due to regulations. Your captain will help you follow regulations while you fish.
Don't forget to bring sunglasses, sunblock (non-spray), and bottled water. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, but try to avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

Yesterday’s fishing trip (10/702025) was a standout experience. The boat captain was fastidious in every sense—his vessel was spotless, and he kept it that way throughout the day, scrubbing away blood and grime the moment he had a chance. He was talkative, sharp, and attentive, never waiting for things to happen but always anticipating the next move.
Fishing this time of year can be hit or miss, and we knew that going in. But the captain didn’t leave it to chance—he coordinated with other captains, exchanged advice, and stayed in touch throughout the day to help put everyone on the fish. That kind of teamwork made a difference. It was a slow bite, but still productive: we caught a couple of perfect-sized red drum for eating and several bluefish, including a solid 28-inch specimen. By the end, we had more fish than we could eat in a few days.
Between the pristine boat, the captain’s energy, and the collaborative spirit on the water, it was a trip that hit all the marks. Captain Wes is a winner!

Most memorable fishing trip ever!
3/4 Day Trip on July 12, 2025 • 2 adults
My bf and I went on a 3/4 day fishing charter with Captain Wes as a birthday celebration and had a most wonderful experience. He had clearly done a lot of prep work beforehand, bringing a full live well with live bait and multiple rods. Because we booked the longer trip, he took us to a couple fishing holes in the ocean and caught some amberjack and red snapper, one of which was citation worthy (25 lbs)! The amberjack were very strong and good for a fight. All the casting, hooking, and tackle were handled by him and he was very encouraging. We also went to a beautiful swimming spot near the sound and explored a small island. Bring dramamine if you get seasick and be sure not to get fish spike in the finger - lots of unusual bacteria. :) We got some snapper fillets which were very yummy. All in all, a very exciting and memorable trip and would recommend Fish Hatteras to all of our friends.

Great half day morning trip with Wes! This was our second time aboard the fish hatteras so we knew what to expect. A great, professional captain who is very knowledgeable and great with children. I brought my two teenage sons and 6 year old nephew this time. Captain Wes was great with all of them and even showed my nephew different wildlife to keep him interested. If you are getting a charter, I definitely suggest fishing on the fish hatteras!

I've fished freshwater for over 50 years myself - I have a small boat with all the electronic junk on it - all the gadgets. Being serious about producing fish takes work & especially when you do it day in and day out. It sounds like "fun" but honestly it's fun "work". Wes delivered the real work. He actually CARES that you put fish in the boat and he worked the gear, boat, electronics, sight fishing and all available techniques to produce for us. I'd book him again 100%. If you're a real angler then you know exactly what I'm talking about & this is what you'll get with Wes. Great guy & very professional. You'll not regret it. I've left probably 3 reviews in my lifetime and Wes get's one of them!

A great day fishing with Wes and Fish Hatteras! Wes was very professional, personable, and got us on the fish first thing in the morning. It was a fun 1/2 day fishing trip to enjoy with two of my sons. My boys are getting older and living on their own. So, any chance to spend some quality time with them is enjoyed. If you are staying in OBX and looking for some time on the water with family or friends, I highly recommend scheduling a trip with Wes. Online booking was very easy and Wes had the boat ready to go as soon as we got to the dock. I will definitely book a trip with Wes the next time I'm in Hatteras. Thanks again, Wes.
