Welcome aboard and experience the incredible fishing opportunities of Costa Rica's Gulf of Papagayo. One of the unique advantages of this area is that deep water is located very close to shore. Within just a few miles, depths of 100 to 200 feet provide excellent fishing grounds and allow us to spend more time fishing and less time traveling.
Depending on the season, we may target roosterfish, mahi-mahi (dorado), barracuda, jack crevalle, sailfish, silk snapper, grouper, and other exciting species. Whether you're looking for a thrilling sportfishing adventure, fresh fish for the table, or simply a relaxing day on the water with family and friends, this trip is designed to provide a memorable experience.
I specialize in productive coastal waters where fishing can be excellent without making long offshore runs. Most fishing takes place within a few miles of the coastline, creating a more comfortable and enjoyable trip for anglers of all experience levels.
The boat is safe, reliable, and built for comfort. Although it is rated for up to seven people, I limit trips to a maximum of five guests to provide extra space, comfort, and safety on board.
After a short ride to the fishing grounds, we begin fishing early to maximize your time on the water. Our goal is simple: help you enjoy a great day of fishing while experiencing the beauty of the Gulf of Papagayo.
We provide cold drinks, beer, snacks, fresh fruit, and sandwiches when available. If conditions and the catch allow, we may also prepare fresh ceviche, sashimi, or fish carpaccio right on board, giving you the opportunity to enjoy some of the freshest seafood possible during your trip.

El pasado 13 de abril de 2026 tuve la oportunidad de realizar un tour de pesca junto a mis compañeros de trabajo con el Capitán Alberto. Esta fue ya mi tercera vez a bordo, y cada ocasión confirma su gran experiencia y conocimiento del Golfo de Papagayo. El Capitán sabe exactamente cuáles son los puntos de pesca más productivos y navega con total seguridad gracias a su vasta trayectoria en el mar. Además, cuenta con todo el equipo necesario para que la experiencia sea completa y disfrutable. Sin duda, siempre es un placer salir a pescar con él.

Captain Alberto picked us up bright and early at Playa Del Coco for our trip. The fishing was slow, but him and his first mate did their best to put us on fish. We did end up catching a few smaller Mahi Mahi which was nice. Snacks and cold drinks were provided as well. Make sure to bring sunscreen and a hat because it gets hot out there. The coat has a canopy over the front seating area which was a blessing. Would definitely book again.
Thank you very much for your review, Dustin. It was a pleasure having you on board. Although the fishing was a bit slow that day, we were glad to put some Mahi Mahi in the boat. At this time of year, many of the Mahi Mahi in our area are still juveniles and growing, so while they provide action, they do not always offer the big fights that larger fish do. We also had tuna in the area, but unfortunately they were not very active that day. That's fishing—some days everything comes together, and other days the fish make us work a little harder. We truly appreciate your patience and positive attitude. Hopefully next time we'll have even better conditions and the opportunity to get you on some larger fish and more exciting battles. My husband and I fish all over the world. Our trip was with Alberto was first class! Captain and "Izzy", his first mate made this birthday extra special for me! We not only caught fish but they made frech ceviche right off of the hook! Alberto not only made the trip safe and comfortable, he also keeps it entertaining.

I hope we can go fishing together again and catch the giant trevally (GT) you were hoping for. The GT is a very picky fish when it comes to biting. It doesn't like water that's too clear, too cold, or too warm. The bait was good, but sometimes it just doesn't happen. Maybe next time. Caught three tuna while trolling, used one for bait and ended up with a nice barracuda! Bottom fished for about an hour and ended up with over 20 fish, inclduing an eel! great trip overall!

Hello, my name is Alberto Méndez and I will be happy to be your captain on your fishing trip. Whether you are traveling with family, children, friends or alone, I offer a pleasant and safe fishing experience. I am a local captain with experience and knowledge of the main fishing areas, focused on providing a safe, comfortable and productive service. You will fish aboard La Pola, a 24-foot American fishing boat designed for sport fishing. It is a stable, versatile and safe boat, with reinforced construction that includes injected urethane foam throughout the hull for greater buoyancy and confidence at sea. Depending on the season and conditions, we may target roosterfish, jacks, snapper, mahi-mahi (dorado) and wahoo. You may bring your own fishing equipment if you wish. I work with anglers of all levels, from beginners to experienced fishermen. Safety is always the main priority and my goal is for you to enjoy a great fishing experience and take home great memories from the trip
