Looking to go fishing in Hilton Head Island? That's what Southern Roots Fishing Charters is here for! With Captain Matt at the helm, you're in knowledgeable and experienced hands. Plus located in The Sea Pines Resort right by the Harbour Town Lighthouse!

Around here the fishing is popular for Redfish, Black Drum, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Atlantic Sharpnose Shark, Bonnethead Shark, Blacktip Shark, Tarpon, and more with any luck.

For these species, you're likely to bottom fish using light tackle or cast artificials depending on the day.

Trips with Southern Roots Fishing Charters are great for kids, so get 'em offline and onto the water! You're welcome to bring snacks to maintain your energy throughout the trip!

You'll be welcome aboard a 25' Center console with space for 4 passengers. It comes with all the essentials no fishing machine can run without.

Your captain will provide rods and reels. Live bait is included, but it's good to ask about this so you know if you'll be catching it yourself.

Your fishing license for the day is covered by the charter boat, so you can drive right over and come aboard without any hassle!

Don't forget to bring bottled water, sunscreen (non-spray), and sunglasses. If you'd like to bring other drinks, just ask. Alcohol is allowed in moderation, just avoid hard liquor as well as glass bottles.

Great Day on the Water !!

4 Hour Trip – Inshore on August 13, 2025

In August our group of 4 went on a 1/2-day charter fishing excursion with Captain Matt, we had an amazing time.  Matt put us right on the fish.  The boat is super nice, very clean.  Matt is an expert captain and knew right where to go to find the fish.  Everybody is still talking about what a fun day it was.  We're planning to book again soon.  The waters around HHI are gorgeous and the great fishing made it that much more special.  I highly recommend Southern Roots Fishing Charters! Matt said he's lived his whole life in the HHI area and has been on the water since a small child.  His knowledge of the waters was invaluable.  If you want a great day fishing, definitely go out with Captain Matt.

Half Day with Captain Matt (Southern Roots Fishing Charters)

4 Hour Trip – Inshore on March 7, 2026

We have used Southern Roots Fishing Charters for the last couple of years and always have a great time.  Captain Matt is always well prepared, is very professional and always has a plan of action based on the conditions.  If you are staying in Sea Pines, you cannot ask for a better location right off the Harbour Town pier.

Half Day Trip

This charter was a great way yo see the local waterways and catch some fun Redfish. Captain Matt did a great job hosting our group and putting us on the fish. Will definitely being booking Captain Matt next time to catch some local fish.

We have done many charters and this one was very different. No fish, no conversations, no humor and no fun!  Highlight was being out on the water.

I remember trying to give you guys extra time and to make the best of it but you guys were not willing to let me do that nor willing to switch things up and go for sharks to get a bite. Some times the bite is slow and that is a part of fishing not allowing your guide to switch it up or give extra time is a sure way to be disappointed. I wouldve loved the chance to do that. 

But hey that is why it is called fishing….

Great Day on the Water !!
