Wahoo & Mahi Mahi – Pacific Afternoon Action (September 1) Description On the afternoon of September 1, ADRENALINA 2.0 departed Cabo San Lucas at 2:00 PM for our only fishing trip of the day, heading toward the Pacific side. While trolling past Rancho San Lucas, the first strike came from a wahoo, which aggressively attacked a black-and-purple Nomad lure. After a fast fight, the crew successfully landed the fish and brought it aboard. We continued trolling along the Pacific coast until reaching the Margarita area, where we turned around and began working our way back toward Cabo. During the return, a mahi mahi (dorado) struck a blue Flying Fish feather. The fish was successfully hooked and landed, adding a second quality species to the afternoon. We returned to Cabo San Lucas Marina at approximately 7:10 PM with one wahoo and one mahi mahi aboard. Double Marlin Hookup, Wahoo & Mahi Mahi – Incredible Offshore Action (August 25) Description On August 25, ADRENALINA 2.0, captained by Rubén López with mate Luisito, departed Cabo San Lucas at 7:10 AM with five anglers for an offshore fishing adventure. We initially headed on a 210° course, beginning our troll approximately 2 miles off Divorce Beach. Our spread included five trolling lures—Flying Fish, Guacamayo, Chihuili, Tigrillo and Petrolero—along with two dead caballito baits in the long and short positions and a Rapala. At approximately 5 miles offshore, we turned north toward Los Arcos. As we passed the Bombas area, a wahoo hammered the Rapala. After a fast and exciting fight, we successfully brought the fish aboard. Only about half a mile later, a striped marlin attacked the long dead caballito. We fought the fish for approximately 10 minutes, but after an impressive series of jumps, the marlin managed to throw the hook. We continued searching closer to shore, changing lures and adjusting the spread. There was plenty of bird and bait activity, but the fish remained selective. After reaching the Margaritas area, we made a roughly 200° turn and moved farther offshore. A mahi mahi soon appeared and played with the short caballito without fully committing. About 15 minutes later, another striped marlin showed behind one of the trolling lures but refused to strike. We changed course once again toward Los Arcos, this time working closer to shore. While passing Casita Blanca, a mahi mahi (dorado) attacked the long caballito. This time we achieved a solid hookup and successfully landed the fish. Then came the highlight of the day. While trolling approximately 1 mile off the beach, a striped marlin attacked the Guacamayo lure and hooked up. As the crew began clearing the remaining lines, Captain Rubén spotted another striped marlin following the teaser. Luisito immediately presented a bait to the second fish while another bait was positioned from the boat. The marlin committed, producing an incredible double striped marlin hookup. We quickly worked the first fish toward the boat. Once the leader was reached, the marlin jumped and threw the hooks, completing a successful leader release. Attention immediately shifted to the second fish, which was still putting tremendous pressure on the tackle. After approximately 45 minutes of fighting, we successfully brought the second striped marlin to the boat for photos. At around 12:40 PM, we began heading back toward Cabo while continuing to troll with four lures and one natural bait. Even then, the action wasn’t finished. Approximately 1 mile offshore near the Lighthouse, another striped marlin appeared behind the long Petrolero lure. Luisito quickly pitched a dead bait to the fish, which attacked the presentation but unfortunately failed to hook up. We returned to Cabo San Lucas Marina at approximately 2:30 PM, completing an action-packed day aboard ADRENALINA 2.0. Double Striped Marlin Release – Four Marlin Strikes Aboard ADRENALINA 2.0 (August 24) Description On August 24, ADRENALINA 2.0 departed Cabo San Lucas at 6:30 AM with five anglers, Captain Rubén López, and mate Luis, heading toward La Herradura. At approximately 2 miles offshore, we deployed a complete billfish trolling spread: short Petrolero and Tigrillo lures, long Flying Fish and Guacamayo lures, a long dead caballito, a short rigged ballyhoo, a small lime-green feather, and two teasers. We had barely covered half a mile when the first striped marlin appeared. The fish attacked the long dead caballito five times, but never fully committed to the bait. We circled the area twice hoping to raise the fish again, but it disappeared. We then changed course toward Cerro Colorado, reaching the waters off Primeras Piedras before turning back toward the area where we had experienced the first marlin activity. The decision paid off. While passing approximately 2 miles off the famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas, another striped marlin attacked the spread. This time we achieved a solid hookup, fought the fish successfully, and brought it alongside the boat for a safe release. We continued toward the Lighthouse, and while trolling off Solmar Beach, another marlin entered the spread. The second hookup was also successful, resulting in our second striped marlin caught and released of the morning. With two marlin releases already completed, the guests asked to switch gears and look for mahi mahi (dorado). We changed the trolling spread to five feathers and two natural baits and moved much closer to shore, working approximately half a mile off the coastline. While passing Arroyo Sucio, another striped marlin suddenly appeared behind one of our teasers. The fish switched from one teaser to the other before we positioned a bait directly in front of it. The marlin attacked the bait twice, but unfortunately never hooked up. At approximately 10:00 AM, the guests requested another 30 minutes of fishing before heading back. We returned to Cabo San Lucas Marina and were back at our slip by approximately 11:00 AM. Wahoo & Striped Marlin Success – 8-Hour Offshore Trip (August 18) On August 18, ADRENALINA 2.0, captained by Rubén López, departed Cabo San Lucas at 6:05 AM for an 8-hour offshore fishing charter with two anglers and two crew members. We headed toward San Jaime and, approximately 3 miles offshore, deployed our full trolling spread: short Petrolero and Tigrillo lures, long Chihuili and Flying Fish lures, a short purple feather, a long dead caballito, and two teasers. We initially worked our way out to approximately 7 miles offshore. After receiving a report of better activity closer to shore near the Rancho area, we adjusted our strategy and moved back toward the 4-mile line. As conditions changed, so did our spread. We replaced the long lures with Guacamayo and Chivatito patterns and switched to fresher caballito baits, running them in both short and long positions. The adjustment paid off. While trolling approximately 2 miles offshore near Los Arcos, something first attacked the short bait and immediately afterward struck the short Petrolero lure. After an exciting fight, we successfully brought a beautiful wahoo aboard. We continued trolling toward the Antennas before beginning our return farther offshore, working approximately the 5-mile line. Near Cerro de Arena, we encountered promising striped marlin activity. Several boats in the area were successfully pitching live bait to marlin, so we worked the zone and made several passes, but initially couldn’t convince one to bite. Later, near the Rancho area, Captain Rubén spotted frigate birds circling overhead, a classic sign of feeding activity below. We moved into the area, and the decision paid off when a beautiful striped marlin attacked our long dead bait. After an exciting battle, the marlin was successfully brought alongside ADRENALINA 2.0. The guests took photos with their trophy before the fish was safely released. We returned to Cabo San Lucas Marina at approximately 2:00 PM, completing an excellent eight-hour day on the water.
