Alaska King Charter

Tongass Avenue
Ketchikan AK, United States

Alaska King Charter provides enjoyable fishing charters out of Alaska’s southernmost city - Ketchikan. A family owned and operated company, this is a place where tradition, exceptional service, and fun rule supreme. Come and enjoy the great outdoors in the remote saltwater regions of Alaska.

Choose the amount of time you want to spend on the water and get ready for an unbeatable team or family bonding experience. All Alaska King Charter’s trips are customized to the anglers on board, and whether you have fished before or not they will make sure you step off the boat with a great memory and a fishing tale to tell for years to come.

You will be fishing aboard a 32 ft Crozier boat that can take up to six guests plus the crew. Powered by twin Honda engines, the boat is perfectly suited to fish the local waters. It features a range of navigational and safety electronics to get you to the fish while staying in contact with the shore, and you will love its covered cabin area and enclosed toilet.

The main target species on your trip will be Alaska’s two most famous saltwater sport fish: Salmon and Halibut. While you have probably tasted Salmon before, after fishing in Ketchikan you will notice that the fish you find in the supermarket are missing two essential aspects: the chase and the taste. There’s nothing quite like bringing a huge King Salmon into the boat, and Alaska King Charters will teach you the best and most enjoyable ways of doing just that. And if you manage to hook a Halibut, you will quickly find out how this delicate-tasting fish is anything but delicate when you bring it into the boat. These monsters can reach up to 500 pounds - are you up for the challenge?

Alaska King Charter will supply you with all the gear you need to get the full Alaskan fishing experience. Just come suitably dressed for the weather and get ready for a trip to remember!

The fishing trip with four friends and another from the cruise ship was most enjoyable with the captain, William, and Sara. The trip from the docks to the deep part of the bay was quick in the boat being used. The quality and solid aluminum boat was super safe and speedy and easily accommodated 2 crew and 5 anglers. The equipment on board was all current technology.  The lines were always baited and at different depths to attract our quarry as seen on the boat’s fish finder. The half day went by quickly as we rotated rods \ bites and we managed 3-pink and 3-nice size Chinook.  Also we had 6-8 strikes where the fish spit out the hook and bait. We also caught a few kings, but those were immediately released as such were out of season. Also the Crew managed the paperwork for processing the catch and shipping back to Houston. We didn’t waste any time as the charter was waiting for us at the pier which was only a five minute walk from the cruise ship gang plank. In summary, we had a glorious time and totally and strongly recommend Atlantic King Charter for any Ketchikan fishing adventure.

Our day was not organised that well by who I presume were the owners with the captain of the boat as he was unaware of who his guests were and what fish were our target species. one group anglers wanted to fish for Halibut but I had been quite specific about targeting salmon.  One of the motors broke down on the way out which reduced us to a crawl.  We fished for Halibut for most of the morning and only caught one very small Halibut. For the remaining hour we fished for salmon and caught one small one.  The captain was pleasant and helpful.  The boat was old but functional.  We were going to be late back with the broken motor so we were picked up by the owners and transported back. There was a real intent by the owners to provide a good fishing experience as they picked us up at our accomodation and made sure we got back on time and maybe it was just the circumstances on the day that made the experience not so good.  If there was one recommendation I would make, it would be for King Charters to understand what the paying guests were wanting to experience and make sure to marry any different groups to that target experience.
