Herring Way
Ocean City, MD, United States

On The Run Charters offers incredible angling with an experienced captain in the bays and jetties surrounding Ocean City, MD. You’ll be greeted by Captain Dave Caffrey, who targets a variety of local fish and makes sure you have a memorable trip atop these waters!

Just like the charter name says – your targets will try to outrun you, but Capt. Dave does his best to help you reel in your catch. Hop aboard his 32’ Parker center console that can accommodate up to 6 anglers. She’s equipped with GPS and Fishfinder, as well as a live well and an icebox to keep your catch fresh.

Onboard you’ll have the chance to try out spinning, jigging, trolling, and drift fishing on heavy or light tackle. If you’re feeling more adventurous, bring your bowfishing equipment with you onboard!

As you scan these inshore waters and bays, make sure to hold your rod tight. There’ll be Bluefish, Tautog, and even Striped Bass to reel in. To ensure your as effective as possible, Capt. Dave provides rods, reels, terminal tackle, and live bait.

Capt. Dave is a big believer in conserving the fish population in Maryland and catch and release fishing is encouraged. However, if you’d like to keep some of your catch, he’s happy to clean and fillet it for you.

Before you set out, grab some snacks, sunscreen, and shades. Then jump into comfortable clothing and don’t forget to bring your camera with you – you don’t want to miss capturing the excitement!

You’re in good hands with On The Run Charters, who will see to it that you get fishing adventure worth your while!

“The Dog Had Better Sea Legs Than My Friends”
4 Hour Trip – Wreck Fishing (AM) on August 16, 20256 adults
We booked Capt. Dave on On the Run Charters for a bachelor party trip, and I’ll say it straight: the man flat-out knows his stuff. From the second we got on the boat, I knew we’d be on fish — and sure enough, we were. Now, my crew made the classic mistake of getting banged up the night before. Bad move. Within 15 minutes of fishing, we already had 3 keeper fluke on a local wreck. Unfortunately, a couple guys couldn’t handle the seas and tapped out early. Capt. Dave went way out of his way and kindly ran them back in — something he absolutely didn’t have to do. That ate up time and fuel, but even after that setback, he still made the rest of our trip count. Even when the tide and temps weren’t perfect, Capt. Dave figured out a way to put us back on fish. He’s got that dialed-in local knowledge you can’t fake. By the end of the trip, the three of us who stuck it out landed 3 keeper fluke and 3 solid sheepshead — not bad considering the circumstances. At first, Capt. Dave was quiet, but once he realized we weren’t total idiots (minus the hangover crew), he loosened up and showed us what a cool, down-to-earth guy he is. Same with his deckhand — who worked non-stop setting lines, baiting hooks, and handling the anchor. Those guys worked hard and made sure we had a good trip. We fished off his Parker 28’ center console — plenty of room for our crew (even if we started with 5 and ended with 3). And I’ve got to mention “Doc,” his salty hound. That dog had better sea legs than my friends, which we all cracked jokes about for the rest of the trip. Doc climbed the gunnels, walked the deck in swells, and stayed locked in the whole time. Absolute legend of a boat dog. When we got back in, Capt. Dave and his mate filleted everything for us. We had plenty of meat to take home, plus we brought some over to the local restaurant Fish Tales, where they cooked it up for us right on the spot — the perfect catch-clean-cook ending to a solid day. Bottom line: don’t be like my crew and drink the night before, and definitely don’t waste the Captain’s time. But even with all our mistakes, Capt. Dave still delivered a great trip. 5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommend if you’re heading to Ocean City, Maryland.

July 2, 2025: 4 hr Inshore
4 Hour Trip – Inshore (AM) on July 2, 20253 adults3 children
Our second trip with Capt Dave and this time with the whole family. 4 kids (16,12,8,4) and 2 adults. Capt and 1st mate were great! VERY kid friendly, which is why we returned and very patient and personable! Our oldest is on the spectrum and they were very engaged with his questions and made jokes. Ruby and Doc were the best. The kids loved having them along (perfectly behaved canines). We got 3 hours in and then had to make a run because of weather turned fast. Had several brought on board with 1 nice flounder. Very convenient pick up and drop off location where you can get a great lunch afterwards. Highly recommended! Will be re booking hopefully in fall! Thanks Capt! A+++

Captain Dave kept us on the fish the whole trip!
4 Hour Trip – Wreck Fishing (PM) on June 25, 20255 adults
We had a great time on the "On the Run" with Captain Dave and first mate Austin. We booked a 4 hour wreck fishing trip for the five of us. I have done several headboat trips with a bunch of other people on the boat and it was nice having just my family to fish. Dave took us out to the first wreck and within seconds of our bait hitting the bottom, we were on the fish. We kept Austin busy rebaiting hooks and measuring our catch. Sea bass were the main species but we also pulled in some tautogs, croakers, a flounder and a robin fish. We had a nice collection of keepers that Dave cleaned for us back at the docks. It was a great trip and I highly recommend booking with On the Run Charters.

4 Hour Trip – Wreck Fishing (AM) on October 18, 20256 adults
I took my daughter fishing on a boat in the ocean for the first time and she loved it! Dave and George took 4 of us out. They know how to get them!! I wasn’t expecting to get so much fish, but we came back with enough to feed a troop of soldiers. Oh, and Dock the dog was awesome!
