Southwest Sportfishing invites you on an offshore fishing adventure in the waters of Port Aransas, Texas. The charter is owned and operated by Captain Roger Sorenson who has spent a lifetime guiding happy guests to the fish of their dreams.
Fishing is done aboard a 36' air conditioned Chris Craft Tournament Fisherman with enough room to comfortably fish six people. Powered by twin 350 HP Caterpillar engines with a maximum cruising speed of 25 knots, the vessel is fast and safe in getting you out to where the fish are. It is equipped with a live well for bait and all the modern equipment necessary to locate the most productive spots to make your trip a successful one.
The vessel is super comfortable, featuring a full-size toilet, a bed, a kitchen, and all the safety features needed, including life jackets for adults and two kids' life jackets for under 75 pounds. Capt. Roger's boat also has a set of outriggers that are used when trolling.
Capt. Roger will take you to the offshore waters where Mahi Mahi, Kingfish, Sailfish, Blue Marlin, Cobia, Sharks, and Red Snapper can be found. Using a variety of fishing techniques, such as light tackle, bottom fishing, trolling, and drift fishing, you will target the species in season.
The crew has Shimano rods and reels, as well as a variety of tackle and lures. You will need a fishing license, sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, and something to eat and drink (no glass containers) on the trip.

10 Hour Trip on July 26, 2026 • 6 adultsRoger (with 2 R's), Glenn (with 2 N's) and Skipper, were great! We did a 10 hour. Landed some amazing snapper. They humored me to chase some barracuda, which we got on. Also we pulled in 1 spinner shark and pulled a 2nd to the boat that we let go. So, fishing was very good. Beyond fishing, I really appreciated the clean (a/c) cabin fiendly crew.

Rogers and Deck Hand Weston from Southwest Sportfishing, and it was an absolutely amazing experience! From the moment we set out, Capt. Rogers demonstrated exceptional knowledge and skill. His expertise in navigating the waters and locating prime fishing spots was evident, and it wasn't long before we were reeling in some impressive catches. We caught huge king mackerel, snapper, and even tuna! The thrill of catching such magnificent fish was beyond exhilarating. Deck Hand Weston was equally fantastic. His enthusiasm and dedication to making sure we had a great time were unmatched. He was always ready to assist with anything we needed, whether it was baiting hooks, handling the gear, or giving us tips on how to improve our catch. His friendly demeanor and helpful attitude made the trip even more enjoyable. The boat was well-equipped, clean, and comfortable, ensuring a smooth and pleasant journey throughout. Both Capt. Rogers and Weston were professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly friendly, making this trip one that I will never forget. 8 Hour Trip – Offshore on August 2, 2023 • 4 adultsCaptain Roger and his crew were fantastic. For my son’s 18th birthday, I purchased an 8 hour deep sea excursion. Not only were the captain and crew great coaches for the boys but they made sure their experience was one of the most memorable. They spent 90 minutes helping them bring in this 700 lb shark and take awesome pictures before they released the shark safely. The boat was clean and the boys took advantage of the air conditioned cabin to nap on their way back. We will absolutely book with Captain Roger again soon! Thank you for making my son’s day amazing.

He helped all of us as needed and busted his backside to keep our hooks in the water. We caught our limit of red snapper. The boat had air conditioning and a comfortable inner cabin. Highly recommend and will use them again soon.

8 Hour Trip – Offshore on August 5, 2022 • 3 adults • 1 childTook an 8 hour trip. Captain and deckhand were great and got us our limit on snapper. Just my son (12 years old), my husband and I went. I think it would be kinda difficult with more if you just fish off the back of the boat. But it was a good time. Perfect for us. Our captain has some new coordinates he took us to and we caught some massive snapper. Kinda cool to get back and see our snapper were huge (29.5 inches was the biggest one). All the other boats that pulled up after us had snapper that were so much smaller lol. All in all it was fun and they did a great job with my son also. Would recommend this charter :-)

Captain Roger, his first mate, and Skipper made my 22nd birthday trip unforgettable! We headed out at 6:30 a.m., caught our own live bait, and immediately started hooking into top-tier fish. We limited out on red snapper, landed a Spanish mackerel, and best of all, caught a 53-pound amberjack on the very first day of its season! Captain Roger and his crew operate with absolute class, precision, and skill—plus plenty of good-natured jokes. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday trip or a better crew. Highly recommend!

I decided to take my twin boys (9 years old) on their first deep sea fishing trip. After looking at reviews, decided to pay a little extra for this charter and was very pleased with my choice! Captain Roger went above and beyond to make sure we had fun, he even let us fish a little later because we were catching so many. He knows all of the best spots! As soon as he told us to put the line in the water, we started catching. First he told us that we were going for shark, then asked if I was ready for a fight. Within 10 seconds of casting, I fought/landed a large blacktip for over an hour. Then we targeted baracuda. We caught 5 in less than an hour. We could have caught more, but decided to target a different species. We moved on to vermillion snapper and caught 36. It was a hot area, we could have landed more, but we watched sharks and dolphins attack them as we were reeling them in. We reeled as fast as we could, but the boys loved all of the action just under the boat. We had several other huge fish (with teeth) break our lines. I booked 3 back to back charters and this 12 hour trip will be the one we talk about forever. We will definitely be back soon. Thanks again Captain Roger!
