Fishing in Hollywood

If you're looking for a fantastic fishery and gorgeous weather year-round, Hollywood FL fishing charters are a dream come true. This is South Florida, where both the inshore and the offshore bite is strong every season, and angling opportunities are plentiful. You’ll be amazed by the sheer number of spots you can go to for some serious rod-bending action.

There's a lot of underwater structure in these parts, making for excellent grounds to target species such as Snook, Redfish, Permit, and Tarpon. Reef spots only a mile from the shore offer all-time favorites like Grouper, Snapper, Amberjack, and Kingfish. One short 15-minute boat ride is all it takes to put you on the hot trail of Blackfin and Skipjack Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Sailfish, Marlin, and Swordfish.

Hollywood has the luxury of quick access to various types of fishing grounds. Inshore, reef, and offshore spots are all available even on shorter trips. Half day trips are your best bet if your goal is to simply spend some time on the water and test what’s biting that day. However, if you’re after a specific fish, especially when it comes to reef or offshore targets, giving yourself several extra hours is always a good idea.

When it comes to finding a charter in Hollywood, you’ll find that the marinas of the Three Islands Park offer a great starting point. Head north, closer to Lake Mabel and the Atlantic open waters, and the marinas of Dania Beach expand the town’s offer and ensure that every group is able to find a charter to their liking.

Rules & Regulations

If you’re going saltwater fishing in Florida, you don’t need to worry about getting a license – registered Hollywood fishing charters will handle it for you. You should, however, inform yourself on seasons and bag limits for the species you intend to target before booking your trip.

Hollywood Fishing Seasons

January
In January, the waters are bit rougher and colder, but the bite is solid. Bottom fishing is productive for big Jacks, Mahi Mahi is active, and there’s a Sailfish here and there.

February
Fish are still in migration, but Mahi Mahi, King Mackerel, Bonito, and Sailfish are here. If you’re going after reef fish like Amberjack, Barracuda, and Almaco Jack, live bait is your best option.
March

As the temperatures are rising, so is the variety of fish you can hook around Hollywood. Mahi Mahi is a frequent catch, as well as Mutton Snapper, and Sharks aren’t shy either.

April
Spring brings more fishing choices, including Blackfin Tuna, King Mackerel, Jacks, and Cero Mackerel. This month is great to get out on the water and have a good time.
May

What a month to fish! Blackfin Tuna is still going strong in May, Sailfish bite is at its peak, and Jacks, King Mackerel, Snappers, and Mahi Mahi are abundant too.

June
The HFBA tournament takes place at the end of the month. Inshore you can hook Barracuda, Jack Crevalle, and Snook. Offshore, Bonito, King Mackerel, and Mahi Mahi are taking the spotlight.
July
Warm weather and waters are an excellent time to target Blackfin Tuna, while it’s still around. King Mackerel, Jacks, and Bonito are also in the cards, as well as Mahi Mahi.
August

Bottom fishing in August will grant you a healthy amount of Snappers and Groupers, as well as colossal Amberjack. In the inshore waters, Barracuda, Redfish, and Jack Crevalle are throwing a party.

September

Sharks are loving September, so you can expect Spinners and Hammerhead. The Sailfish bite is scattered, but you can find it, and you can also easily hook a massive King Mackerel.

October
Things are cooling down, but the fishing action is still hot. You’ll find Barracuda, Snook, Spanish Mackerel, and Jack Crevalle inshore, and some Sailfish, Bonito, and King Mackerel offshore.
November

In November, things are becoming a bit more unpredictable, but Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, and Skipjack Tuna are possible to find. King Mackerel is always in the game, and they come in impressive sizes.

December

Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish are popular inshore, and Barracuda are chomping live bait, as per usual. On the offshore front, there are no rules, Groupers, Snappers, and Mahi Mahi are all on the menu.
