Fishing in Jupiter

Just an hour and a half from Miami, Jupiter fishing charters are eagerly waiting to take you to your next favorite fishing spot. With its white sandy beaches and rich marine life, the town is a hit with anglers and sunbathers alike. Boasting some of the country’s best Snook fishing on its doorstep and the “Sailfish Capital of the World” just a short boat ride to the north, who wouldn’t want to call this their new angling home?

The local inshore waters will see you targeting Spotted Seatrout, Redfish, Jacks, Pompano, Tarpon, and Snook. A visit to the Jupiter Inlet will allow you to expand this list of species even further making for world-class nearshore fishing. Offshore, the proximity of the Gulf Stream gives you the opportunity to target Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Sailfish, and Blackfin Tuna only a short boat ride from the shore.

Inshore trips taking you to either the Jupiter Inlet, the Loxahatchee River, or the Intracoastal Highway will allow you to get some serious fishing done on a half day trip. Even though half day Gulf Stream trips are just as popular, you'll want to set aside a full day to experience the full potential of this offshore fishery.

At just a stone's throw away from all the major fishing grounds in the area, the Jupiter Harbor is the perfect place to hop aboard a charter. It’s the perfect launching point for your Floridian adventure, regardless of where you decide to take it!

Rules & Regulations

All licensed saltwater fishing charters in Florida cover fishing permits for their guests, so if you’re boarding a professional Jupiter charter you won’t need to worry about buying a fishing license. If going alone, you’ll need a Florida fishing license before baiting your hook. You can purchase these online or at your local bait shop.

Jupiter Fishing Seasons

January
Winters in this part of Florida are mild and dry, making this a great time to get out on the water. You can find some Smoker Kingfish nearshore most years, with Sailfish biting well in deeper waters.
February

The inshore action is hot, with Snook and Speckled Trout biting well. Offshore, Sailfish and Blackfin Tuna are whipping up a storm, with Cobia making its way past the beaches on its northerly migration.

March
As the waters get warmer, colorful pelagics start to reach the waters off Jupiter. You'll usually see the first Mahi Mahi (Dolphin fish) appearing around now. Inshore anglers should look for Tripletail in the Loxahatchee River.
April
Some people say April is one of the best times to fish in Jupiter. Large Snook is starting to congregate around the Jupiter Inlet, while offshore, you could be in with the chance of catching a Blue Marlin, Mahi, and Wahoo!
May
May is the first major Kingfish run of the year in Jupiter, Florida. Atlantic Kingfish come southwards to the local waters to spawn, bringing large 'Smoker' females along with them. Meanwhile, big Tarpon appears from the South.
June
The weather gets hotter. Expect to find large schools of Little Tunny (Bonito) nearshore. These little fish give a hard fight on light tackle. If you're after something bigger, the exotic pelagics are still around.
July

Temperatures rise even further, making a boat with air conditioning sound appealing. Be prepared for short tropical storms in the afternoon—book a morning trip if you don't want to get wet.

August
The famous Kingfish fishery raises its head again in August—although this time, it's the Kings from the Gulf that are coming northwards to Jupiter. Paradoxically, you'll usually find the bigger fish in shallower waters.
September
Look for Mangrove Snapper as they spawn on the reefs and wrecks. Make sure to check out the "Chasin Tails" annual KDW Sports Fishing Tournament and raise money for poorly kids while catching fish.
October
The fishing action starts to heat up as the weather cools down. Expect to see the first Sailfish appearing as the water temperatures reach the high 70's or low 80's. Inshore, Redfish peaks as it gorges on migrating finger mullet.

November
Sailfishing starts to get really good in Jupiter in November. Head northwards for the best bite and get ready for a fight you won't forget. There's no such thing as winter blues in southeast Florida!

December
Joining the Sailfish, you can expect to find the third, smaller, run of Mackerel at this time of year. Offshore, look for Blackfin Tuna. Nothing says 'Happy Holidays' clearer than some reel-screaming offshore fishing.
