Fishing in Kissimmee

If you’re looking to join a trip with one of the legendary Kissimmee fishing guides, you’re probably after some trophy-sized Bass. If that’s so, you’re in luck. The Kissimmee Chain of Lakes Area (KCOLA) is one of the most bountiful inshore fisheries you can find in Central Florida. Pick one of two dozen different bodies of water and cast your line!

Hundreds of avid anglers flock to these fishing grounds every year to snatch their next wall-hanger Bass that can weigh up to 25 pounds. The Bass fishing Kissimmee has to offer is second to none and, aside from impressive-sized Largemouth Bass, these waters also hold healthy Bluegill, Shellcracker, and Crappie populations.

Depending on how much time you want to spend on the water chasing your trophy catch, you’ll be able to choose from various trip options. Going out for a full day trip is typically reserved for the most passionate trophy chasers. When it comes to half day expeditions, those are mostly family- and novice-friendly options.

With so many areas to explore and admire, it’s hard to know where to begin. A local fishing guide is your fastest way to a productive spot and finding one should be an easy task in Kissimmee. Although guides are spread out throughout the area, a good place to begin your search would be the Kissimmee Lakefront Park.

Rules & Regulations

Before you head out, you’ll need to get a valid freshwater fishing license, and there are several types to choose from depending on your state of residence and license length. Also, keep in mind that Largemouth Bass are subject to strict bag limits that change each year.

Kissimmee Fishing Seasons

January
The weather might be cold, but the bite is hot. Fishing for Largemouth Bass is excellent, and Crappie isn't holding off either. At the end of the month, the Florida Bass Federation Tour is kicking off on Lake Okeechobee.

February

Bass Master Classic is taking place on Kissimmee Lake at the beginning of February. Bass are moving to shallow waters for spawning, and this where you will have the best luck hooking them.

March

As the weather is getting warmer, Largemouth Bass move to spawn in deeper waters, and sandy areas are their favorite hiding spot. The end of March also brings Shellcracker to the map.

April
Look for Bluegill and Shellcracker in skinny waters this month, and don’t forget about great Crappie fishing. Bass spawning season is at its end, but you can snag a big one in cooler waters.
May
Go exploring around hydrilla patches and catch brag-worthy Bass. Bluegill are finding their way to the shallows, while Crappie is chilling in the open water.

June

Temperatures are rising, which means Bass are fleeing to the open water. Casting your line around aquatic vegetation is your best option. Crappie is also hanging in deeper waters.

July
Go to West Lake Toho to catch the best Bass bite. The waters are low, temperatures are high, and Bass are schooling around Kissimmee grass and hydrilla. Shellcracker, Bluegill, and Catfish are also swimming around.

August

You should head out before sunrise to snag the best Largemouth Bass and outrun the heat. Bluegill are responding well to flies, while Crappie is still hanging in the open water.

September

If you’re going fishing in Kissimmee in September, you will find Bass around shell beds, waiting for small fish to swim by. Bluegill, Shellcracker, and Crappie are all staying in the open waters.

October
The colder weather brings the peak of the fall Bass run! East and West Toho Lakes are teeming with Bass, so head out and catch them all!

November

This month is bringing colder weather, so you should look for trophy Bass in the shallow, warmer waters. The spawning period is fast approaching, giving you plenty of opportunities to catch and release something big.

December
Bass are getting big in preparation for the spawning season, and this is your chance to snag one or several! You will find them in shallow waters around vegetation, while Crappie still prefers the open water.
