Fishing in Navarre Beach

When you’re looking for a premier fishing spot away from the crowds, Navarre Beach is the place to be! Smack dab in the middle of the bountiful Florida Panhandle, this area sports amazing angling opportunities for novice anglers and seasoned fishermen alike.

If you want peace on the water that’s teeming with prized fish, look no further than Navarre Beach fishing charters! With a local guide to take you to the hottest bite, you’ve got the best chance to find something brag-worthy at the end of your line.

Known For

Whatever your fishing preferences are, Navarre Beach will provide. Whether it’s inshore fishing, nearshore hunts, or long deep sea fishing adventures, this little corner of fishing paradise has it all.

Inshore Fishing

With Santa Rosa Sound on one side of Navarre Beach, the list of inshore superstars you can hook is formidable. Depending on the time of the year, you can hook Redfish, Sheepshead, Speckled Trout, Spadefish, Spanish Mackerel, and Flounder. Bull Redfish steal the spotlight in the inshore realm, and you can catch them by the boatload, especially if you come during winter. The same goes for Speckled Trout that thrive in the colder waters and catching Gator (supersized) Trout is not uncommon in these parts.

Nearshore Fishing

You can never fish enough of the Gulf of Mexico and Navarre Beach is here to prove it. Navarre Beach fishing charters focused on exploring the nearshore waters will take you up to 9nine miles from land to bottom fish for Triggerfish, Snapper, Amberjack, and Grouper or troll for all the popular pelagics.

What makes fishing here different from other parts of the Panhandle is the fact that you can go “offshore” without ever setting foot on a boat, all thanks to the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier. This just happens to be the longest pier in the Gulf, over 1,500 feet long, and from it you can cast your line in nearshore waters and wait for the “offshore” A-listers to gulp it down.

Deep Sea Fishing

Deep sea fishing trips will have you casting your lines more than 50 miles from shore, in the bountiful federal waters. These expeditions usually begin before sunrise, last 10–14 hours, and put you on the front lines of unforgettable rod action. Offshore you can hook the most coveted catch: Marlin and Sailfish. Bull Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Yellowfin Tuna are also a part of the all-star cast that could find its way to your boat.

If deep dropping holds a special place in your heart, this is the place to be. Day fishing for Swordfish is superb here, and Tilefish and Barrelfish also call these waters home. Catching them will be fun and challenging, but very much worth the trip and effort.

Fishing Tips

  • When it comes to inshore fishing, Speckled Trout and Redfish hunts are unprecedented. You can score some wall-worthy specimens by using jigs tipped with shrimp.

  • To catch your biggest Cobia yet, sight fishing around barrier beaches is your best bet. Live bait in the form of eels and pinfish is the way to boat a lunker.

  • When you want to target Snappers and Groupers further out (up to 20 miles offshore), cast your line around artificial reefs and wrecks. The deeper the water, the better the chances of catching one of the more exotic species.

Need to Know

Navarre Beach fishing is excellent throughout the year, so whether you’re coming to take a break from the winter chill or to fish to your heart’s content, you won’t be disappointed.

Regulations

The easiest way to familiarize yourself with all the rules and weight limits is to go fishing with a local captain. They will arrange fishing licenses for everyone on the boat and explain everything else you need to know.

Budget

Half day trips will keep you in the inshore waters and will cost around $400–$600. Kayak fishing is also very popular in the area and affordable, around $300 per person. Nearshore expeditions are usually in the $800 ballpark, while the price of 10+ hour deep sea fishing adventures is $1,000 and up. Multi-day charters are also available, but the prices depend on the duration of the trip and your prey of choice.

Getting There

Navarre Beach is part of Navarre, a town that is the best kept fishing secret of Florida. You’ll find Pensacola on the other side of Pensacola Bay, less than 30 miles away. If you’d like to explore the world's most famous fishing village, Destin is only a half-hour-drive away.

Gorgeous beaches and pristine waters paired with extraordinary fishing offer a fresh perspective on Florida fishing that might just make Navarre Beach your new favorite angling spot.

Navarre Beach Fishing Seasons

January

Winter months are excellent for some top-notch inshore fishing, when Speckled Trout and Redfish abound and the weather isn’t too hot. Black Drum and Red Snapper are also active.

February

The offshore waters could still be too rough, but the inshore action isn’t slowing down. The inshore waters are cold, so there will be plenty of Black Drum, Speckled Trout, and Redfish to chase.

March

Temperatures are rising as is the fishing action. When inshore, think Spanish Mackerel, Redfish, Bluefish, and Speckled Trout. Offshore Bonito, Triggerfish, Wahoo, and Red Snapper are biting.

April

Cobia fishing is excellent in April, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. A slew of inshore favorites is active, and further from land, you can expect anything from King Mackerel to Bonito.

May

Summer is here, and so are all the beautiful fish! Choose your favorite species (or several) and head out. Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Sailfish, Wahoo, Grouper, Snapper, and more are in the cards.

June

There’s nothing you can’t catch in June, as the high fishing season is in full swing. Inshore royalty, offshore A-listers, or both – it’s up to you! Anything from Redfish to Tilefish is there for the taking.

July
The list of potential catches is endless in July – from Speckled Trout to Spanish Mackerel, from Mahi Mahi to Wahoo, from Marlin to Snapper – the waters are teeming with them all!

August

Whether you’re bottom fishing or trolling, deep dropping or casting, fishing in Navarre Beach is second to none in August. One day on the water won’t be enough, there’s too much fish in the sea!

September

Slowly but surely, autumn is coming to town, but the fishing is still hot. Reds and Specks inshore, Billfish in the deep waters, and a plethora of pelagics and bottom dwellers in between are there for the taking.

October

Offshore fishing is still an option with plenty of Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, and Mahi Mahi. In their inshore domain, Bull Reds reign supreme.

November

Inshore fishing isn’t giving up, but the offshore waters can be fickle in November. Cobia, Black Drum, Speckled Trout, and of course Redfish are biting and fighting left and right.

December

The cold front is here to stay for a couple of months, which means most of the offshore superstars have moved to the warmer waters. In the meantime, Grouper, Snapper, Specks, and Reds love the cold and thrive in it.

We fished on a clear day with low winds with temps in the low 70s. Wear long sleeves, sunglasses and a secure hat for the sun and ocean winds. You might also want a small jacket.

Do some research. Message the captain and talk to the people before your trip. Most people will be accommodating and knowledgeable and if they aren’t I recommend moving on to a different charter! Ask questions and be prepared for all types of weather.

We like the half day morning inshore trips, especially for younger kids. Fishing is ok…catch plenty of fish but a lot are short trout this time of year.

Hard to plan with weather. Windy on day of our trip so it was more difficult to fish with 6 people on boat but it still worked out well.
