Fishing in Rogue River
If you’re looking for a freshwater adventure in southern Oregon, go fishing with the Rogue River charters! Known for its untamed beauty and breathtaking scenery, this river has over 200 miles of fishable water. Rogue River fishing guides have a reputation for knowing some of the best Steelhead and Salmon hideouts. Novices and experienced anglers alike are welcome to join them!
Spring-run Chinook Salmon, also known as “Springers,” are the most desirable catch here. The reason so many anglers won’t rest until they’ve caught one is the amazing fight they put up. If you want to catch this most aggressive type of Salmon, take a trip in May. Fall Salmon fishing is slightly different, since the fish are bigger and fight less.
During winter, the fishing scene belongs to Steelhead Trout. They are very active from December–March and are a great target if you want to practice fly fishing. Rainbow Trout put on a great show in October with their jumps, splashes, and fighting spirit (considering their size).
Local fishing guides usually run trips year round, but the peak charter season is during the spring and fall Salmon runs, when more guides show up. There are two main types of trips: half day and full day options. While half day trips are great if you want to target one specific type of fish, full days usually give you the chance of a combo trip and you’ll get to try out more fishing techniques. You can find the best fishing spots in lower parts of the river, especially from Grants Pass to Gold Beach.
Rules & Regulations
Every angler age 12 or older needs an Oregon fishing license. Catch limits vary each year, so it’s best to check with your guide.
