- Background
- I’ve fished since I was in elementary school. I grew up Bass fishing lakes and rivers. In my early 20’s I fished a lot Bass tournaments for both Small and Largemouth Bass, winning several of them. About 12 years ago, bored with freshwater fishing, I made a blind leap in to Light tackle saltwater. I quickly fell in love with saltwater fishing, being impressed with how hard they fight and vigorously they feed in the right conditions. About 6 years ago, I saw a need for fishing rods designed just for light tackle fishing in saltwater. I started a rod company that quickly grew. Our rods can be found in several popular stores in the area. Today, we are the largest independent light tackle rod company on the east coast. Over the years fishing with other Chesapeake anglers, our rod customers and friends from out of town it was often mentioned I should guide. Now I enjoy showing others what drew me to salt water.
- Techniques
- I use light tackle gear as I feel it’s the most sporting and fun way to target fish. A general day is starting off or ending in shallow water throwing top water lures. During the day or when the fish aren’t shallow I run ledges, humps, oyster bars and chase birds. You’re welcome to keep your catch but catch and release is always suggested. Aside from fishing and making fishing rods I’m very active with Chesapeake Bay groups who work to improve the Bay. As well, we’re going to have a lot of fun. I’m always happy to point out areas of interest on and around the Bay as well, explaining fun facts about the area. For experienced anglers, I’m always happy to teach how I approach a day of fishing, as well as how I set up and use my electronics to find fish. Taking small crews allows me to focus on working with each angler and we will never come back early. We’re fishing for the time you paid for. Let’s go fishing!
