Before your charter, I was very up front that inshore fishing had been unusually slow, and I even suggested a shorter trip to help manage expectations and reduce costs. I also offered a nearshore option where the action had been more consistent, but you shared that your priority was for your family to experience dolphins, manatees, and the adventure of being inshore — and I completely respected that.

We did have some solid bites, and I gave clear instruction on how to handle circle hooks, which require a slow, steady retrieve rather than a hook set. I know this can be counterintuitive, especially in the moment, but I did my best to help coach through it. As for the landing net — I always carry one, but in that specific moment, I was managing multiple tasks in a tight space and couldn’t grab it fast enough. That’s on me, and I take full responsibility.

I’ve been fortunate to run charters over 300 days a year, and this is my first negative review out of more than 150 five-star ratings. I truly care about every trip, and I do my best to provide honest guidance, strong effort, and a safe, enjoyable experience on the water — even when conditions are challenging.
