Background
TD Coastal Adventures was built on family, tradition, and community. My story started at five years old on the salt waters of Vancouver Island with my dad, brother, and uncle. I was barely tall enough to see over the wheel, but they let me drive the boat — and that’s when the sea got into my blood. Those early mornings, chasing salmon through wind and tide, gave me more than memories. They gave me purpose. Today, my boat carries the name of my late mom, The Barb, and my brother Tom — with 50 years of guiding experience — continues to share the wisdom that shaped the way I fish. Together, we bring a legacy on the water that’s second to none. For us, fishing isn’t just business — it’s family, tradition, and a way of life. We also believe in giving back to the coast that has given us so much. TD Coastal Adventures supports local causes, from hospice fundraisers to youth programs and community events. To us, being part of Vancouver Island means more than running charters — it means strengthening the people and the place we call home. Step aboard and you’ll fish the way these waters are famous for: single-action reels screaming, Tomic plugs flashing, anchovy and spoons custom-rigged from decades of know-how, and downriggers paired with hand-stuffed hootchies. It’s raw, it’s authentic, and it’s west coast fishing at its finest. This is more than fishing — it’s my life’s story, my family’s tradition.Step aboard, and let’s write your story on the tides of Campbell River.
Techniques
Campbell River is famous around the world for one thing — salmon fishing tradition. This is the Salmon Capital, where generations have run the tides chasing Chinook, Coho, Pinks, Chum, and the wild pulse of the Pacific. Add in the hard-hitting Lingcod that prowl our reefs, and you’ll see why anglers from everywhere come here to test their skill and fill their stories with saltwater legends. I carry that tradition forward every time I step on the water. Out here, fishing isn’t just a pastime — it’s a way of life, a test of grit, and the reason this town put its name on the map. On my boat, you’ll fish the way Campbell River is known for: single-action reels screaming, Tomic plugs flashing in the depths, and line-burning runs that make your heart pound. It’s raw, it’s authentic, and it’s what we’re famous for. I also rig downriggers with carefully stuffed hootchies, anchovy, and spoons — custom-presented on our lines from decades of catching salmon. Every lure and setup is chosen with one thing in mind: putting you on fish and giving you the thrill of a lifetime. With my lifetime on these waters, and together with my brother’s 50 years of guiding experience, we bring a legacy you can’t learn in a book. Step aboard and you’re not just booking a trip — you’re joining a story, a tradition, and an adventure that only Campbell River can deliver. This is west coast fishing at its finest — wild, legendary, and unforgettable. Captain Dan style. โš“??

Jun 26, 2025 Campbell River
July fishing forecast predicts a chookie mayhem, coho fireworks, and pink salmon on the way! Campbell River is ? right now. The salmon bite is full throttle, and this month is shaping up to be one of the best weโ€™ve seen in years. Hereโ€™s what weโ€™re catching at TD Coastal Adventures: ? Chinook (King) โ€“ 15โ€“25 lbs and hitting deep! Tyee-class fish showing up daily. Spoons and anchovy rigs are dialed in at 130โ€“180 ft. ? Coho (Silver) โ€“ First hatchery fish have arrived and theyโ€™re wild! Fast, aggressive, and crushing gear. Doubles and triples are happening when you find the schools. ? Lingcod & Rockfish โ€“ Bottom fishing is solid on the reefs when the tides play nice. Vertical jigs and bait combos are putting meat in the box. ? Halibut โ€“ Surprise slabs showing up on our full-day combos. Always a welcome bonus! ? COMING SOON: BIG PINK SALMON RETURN Late July will bring waves of pinks โ€” aggressive, fast-paced action perfect for light tackle and family fun. Forecasts show a strong return this year, so get ready for bent rods and big smiles. ? Weโ€™re fishing productive lanes off Mitlenatch Island, Cape Mudge, and the Green Can drift zones. We follow the bait and the birds โ€” because thatโ€™s where the action is. ? Captain Danโ€™s Tip: โ€œFish deep, fish bold. July rewards the ones who adapt fast and stay in the zone. If youโ€™re not marking bait, move โ€” the bite is there if you find it.โ€ ? Prime spots are filling fast. ? Weekends: Almost gone ? Weekdays: Morning departures still open ?๏ธ All charters launch from Dock D โ€“ Discovery Marina โœ… 3, 5 & 8-hour trips โœ… All gear, bait, and fish care included โœ… Great for first-timers, hardcore anglers & families โธป ? June Coho Fishing Is On Fire!!!
June Coho Fishing Is On Fire!!!
Jun 12, 2025 Campbell River
? FISHING REPORT โ€“ TD Coastal Adventures ?? Date: June 11 ? COHO OPENED JUNE 1st! ? You can now retain 2 hatchery coho per person, per day โ€” and theyโ€™re here in solid numbers! Weโ€™ve been hooking into silver bullets at 60 feet, especially around the mid-hump and out on the Flats by the green can. Hot action, chrome fish, and some days are lighting up like itโ€™s August. ? Hatchery ID Tip: Look for a missing adipose fin โ€” thatโ€™s the tiny fin between the dorsal and tail. If itโ€™s gone, youโ€™re good to keep it. Wilds go back, hatchery fish come home with you. ? Why Your Fish Tastes Better With Us At TD Coastal, we donโ€™t toss fish on dry ice or into warm bins. We use a cold salt ice slurry โ€” a pro-level method that flash-chills your fish down to just below freezing in minutes. That means: โœ”๏ธ No mushy flesh โœ”๏ธ No blood pool around the belly โœ”๏ธ Sushi-grade quality for your BBQ or smoker โœ”๏ธ A serious upgrade from the โ€œcooler with ice cubesโ€ approach We bleed and slurry immediately โ€” because we respect the fish, and we want your catch to be the best youโ€™ve ever tasted. ? Ready to get on the water? Spots are filling up quick โ€” June tides are sweet, and the bite is on now. ? Book today before the window passes. Letโ€™s hook into chrome and keep it cold the right way. See you on deck, โ€“ Captain Dan Old school grit. Cold salt brine. Damn good fishing.

Captain Danโ€™s Pan-Seared Tomato Basil Lingcod Fresh lingcod fillets (caught by you, if youโ€™re doing it right) Sea salt and cracked black pepper Olive oil Fresh basil leaves Cherry tomatoes, halved Garlic, minced A splash of dry white wine A squeeze of fresh lemon How to cook it: Season your fillets with salt and pepper like you mean it. Heat a skillet with olive oil until itโ€™s good and hot. Sear the fillets until golden brown on both sides โ€” crisp outside, tender inside. Scatter fresh basil over the top and let it all simmer until the fish flakes perfectly. Cooked fast. Cooked fresh. Always cooked with love. Best served hot, with cold drinks, great company, and a grin you canโ€™t wipe off
