If you’re visiting the Big Island and your family likes to fish, Ocean Blue Kona is the way to go! Kevin, the Captain communicates very well before and during the trip, is friendly, knowledgeable, professional and most importantly, knows where the fish are!  His first mate, Mahina, was a great addition to the trip!  Also polite, professional and helpful.  I recommend the four hour triip.  This allowed plenty of time for rod in hand with cruise time from spot to spot.  The ocean presented some rolls but the boat and the captain handled them with ease and made the trip very enjoyable.  We caught a lot of fish and they were delicious!  Captain Ken filleted them and packaged them on ice for us to take back to our condo.  This near shore, light tackle fishing trip is the way to go for family fun!

My wife and I wanted to go fishing, but we didn’t want to spend the whole day out on the water, and we definitely wanted to catch something for dinner. Captain Kevin Campbell and his mate Mahina gave us an awesome experience that we will never forget! For starters, we had the (quite spacious) boat entirely to ourselves (I don’t know if this is always the case) and every portion of the trip was entirely catered to our desires, from the type of fish we went after, where we went, all the way down to the music we listened to. They had snacks and cold drinks for us, and they even charged my wife’s phone for her!
In regards to the actual fishing, we elected to try to catch some bottom feeders to make sure we had dinner, and we caught three striped snapper, trigger fish, goat fish, ringtail, and my wife even caught a lizardfish. It was more than we needed and the ones we kept were delicious!
If I ever make it back to Kona, there is no question in my mind as to whom I would look up to take us out fishing!

We went fishing July 14th, 2024 with Captain Kevin and Mahina, and it was amazing! Captain Kevin got us on fish right away and the bite never stopped. Kevin and Mahina were great with all of us including my 7 and 10 year old boys. They made sure to show the boys how to fish with the light tackle technique.

The boat was comfortable and clean, and Captain Kevin was very knowledgeable! They cleaned and bagged the fish for us and gave us recipes for the fish we caught, which turned out amazing!

We had a great time with Captain Kevin and Mahina! They have a passion for fishing and were super helpful to our two boys.  Their main focus is on ensuring everybody in the group is having a good time and they are a joy to be around.  Our boys were exhausted from catching so many fish, and they prepared our fish to take to a local restaurant to cook for us which made it even more special!

Captain Kevin and his crewmate Mahina were a lot of fun to work with. In between catching some reef fish (we probably boated close to a dozen, not big, but fun action!) we were have a lot of fun singing along with the good tunes that we listened to while fishing and cruising. Being late February, the winds were strong, and it was a bit bumpy all morning which dampened the bite somewhat, but Kevin and Mahina gave it their best shot and made a decent morning out of the breezy conditions. They are first class people, and I have worked with a number of guides over the years. If we get back to Kona again I will book with them again! Mahalo!
