3/4 of the people had not been ocean fishing before. Within a very short time we had hooked and brought in the nice tuna.  The crew was wonderful with Capt. Pedro and first mate Vasco providing direction and coaching as needed. Since it was a time with friends, it was also great to see reactions to see dolphins, dolphins, and far too many dolphins. The only regret is that we did not book a full day of fishing and opted for a four hour trip. But it was a great introduction and we look forward to booking with the same crew in the future when more family and friends come to visit us on the island. Pedro and Vasco thank you very much and we hope this is the beginning of a long lasting friendship.

Vasco and Guillermo made for an outstanding day on the water. Vasco is an excellent captain who kept us on the fish all afternoon. We lost count of how many barracuda, triggerfish, and rockfish we caught. Guillermo was a fun, capable first mate, and the two of them worked seamlessly as a team. Beyond putting us on great fishing, Vasco provided fresh peaches and watee during the trip and took great photos and videos so we’d have plenty of memories to take home. The whole crew was friendly, easygoing, and made the day genuinely fun. The boat itself was clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. Highly recommend this charter to anyone looking for a great catch and an even better time on the water.

If you have a child, booking with Captain Jorge is an absolute must. My nine-year-old son Ben and I chartered a day and a half with him, and it became one of the most memorable experiences of our trip, even without catching tuna.
Jorge is patient, kind, and genuinely gifted with kids. He kept Ben involved in every little task on the boat, always had an eye on him, and made us feel completely safe throughout. You could tell this wasn’t just professionalism. Jorge has a son Ben’s age, and his fatherly instinct and pure excitement at seeing Ben smile and learn was truly priceless.
When the tuna weren’t cooperating, Jorge didn’t miss a beat. He spent two hours trolling for barracuda and jigging across three different locations, mixing up the scenery and the species just to keep Ben engaged and ensure he caught something. The action was non-stop. We landed 5 barracudas and 23 other fish, groupers, dogfish, triggerfish, and more. Ben was in absolute heaven. Jorge turned every catch into a little lesson, showing Ben the different species and keeping his curiosity fired up the entire time.
Throughout the trip, Jorge kept a watchful eye out for turtles, whales, and dolphins. When he spotted a group of dolphins, he changed course to get us closer. They approached the boat and curiously played around us, putting on a show neither of us expected. Ben and I were completely amazed, and it is a moment we will never forget.
The magic lasted well beyond the boat. For the rest of the trip, Ben kept telling everyone how much he loved Jorge, his boat, and their time together. He reminded me multiple times a day to write this review, and he’s nine, so that says everything.
This review might sound over the top, but honestly, it still doesn’t fully capture how incredible our time was. Jorge gave us a lifetime of memories, and we cannot wait to fish with him again.

The sea was calm and most of the time the sky was overcast which actually helped, in terms of air temperature.
The big-eye tuna had the audacity to avoid us :) even if two fishes in the 40 kg range were hooked by a nearby fishing vessel, a fact which we have witnessed.
Plenty of dolphins were seen, some of which came within metres from the boat. The Portuguese man-of-war could be seen at least every ten minutes, with the boat underway. Sea birds were present almost all the time. For someone who loves marine life, this area is a must.
Both Capt. Pedro and his mate Vasco provided a thorough briefing regarding the fishing equipment, the related strategies and the tuna behaviour.

We spent a day fishing with an amazing crew of true professionals, and it exceeded all our expectations. Not only did we catch more then 100 kg of tuna in total, but the biggest fish weighed an impressive 50 kg! Capitan Jorge Tavares shared a wealth of knowledge about tuna fishing, explaining the techniques, local traditions, and everything that goes into this craft. It was fascinating to learn from people who are so passionate and experienced. On top of the fantastic fishing, they were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and made us feel comfortable throughout the entire trip. As a bonus, they even took the time to show us dolphins and whales, making the day even more special. This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we’ll never forget.
